    Does an android head unit mean you're able to mirror things from your phone on to the in dash screen? Are there any head units that currently do that? Like, if I wanted to watch Netflix from my phone, I could plug it in a have it showing on my screen?

    Pioneer double din, can't remember the model number. It's a bit older now but I can control an iPod through it or hook up a bunch of other stuff like a camera or extra headrest monitors for movies. The have a Pioneer back-up camera, a mini plug connector so I can hook up my phone or tablet and an iPod cable run into my center console. It runs into a Pioneer amp under the driver's seat, Polk or JL speakers (I can't can't remember right now) and a Sound Ordinance powered sub (I wanted to be able to remove it). I've been very happy with it so far.

    I have the KVC KW-V620BT I like it ok, but im looking for something better with apple carplay. I also have MB Quart sep in front doors, MB Quart coax in rear doors, a pair of MB Quart dvc 10’s in a sealed box with a Pioneer 5 channel driving it all.

    something like that wouldn't be bad... but a pure android system.. it would be interesting. let it bluetooth your phone and share you data. the one downside to a pure android stereo would be any data stored on it should the truck or stero be stolen.

    A few mods here and there and counting....
    The Pioneer Avic NEX series support apple carplay. If and when my z130bt takes a dump(i highly doubt it) ill upgrade to NEX series.

    I have a Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS, it has DVD, XM, etc.

    I tied my steering wheel controls, backup camera, XM antenna and USB back in and added a DVD bypass to allow DVD's to be watched without doing the ebrake peddle dance that Pioneer came up with to try to make sure people are stopped while watching. I also have the same basic setup in my 2007 Ram.

    A also have an Alpine SPR-60C speaker set for the Tacoma.

    Crutchfield shipped a Metra dash kit with the head unit and I didn't like it. It had a bit more of a gap around the faceplate than I liked and the material was a matte finish, when the factory dash kit was gloss black.

    I bought a Scoche dash and it was of higher quality in this case and was available in gloss black.

    No you can't mirror anything, You can really only use things like music apps, GPS, and make calls without needing to be on your phone directly. Its more so you don't have to be on your phone while driving.

    Alpine CDE W265BT. Great head unit with everything except an LCD screen. The model itself will be 3 years old in May 18...might be due for a refresh, although I didn’t see new Alpine Heaunits announced at the Vegas show.

    If i were to assign a Macrumors buyers rating to it...I’d give it a yellow-red. Buy it only if a great discount can be found.

    yep..
    My android head unit has all the same features as an android phone. I have the Netflix app on it and have watched episodes on the head unit before using my phone as a hot spot. Works perfectly. Any Google play app. You can also mirror your phones screen using mirrorlink but I haven't found the need for it yet.

    This is what I bought, I don't need a remote or a cd player, it took me 90 mins to install moving slow, and I called 2x to check some stuff, and it works perfectly, and I got the black surround, for my 2011 that had silver. ground the brake wire, and you can watch movies from the USB, that your rip to mov. Sounds great, I am no audiophile and my wife even less but with the stock Access Cab speakers, it sounds way better, even she noticed. Plug and play. Steering wheel controls work.

    Don't buy of Amazon you don't get any help, you don't get a plug and play harness.
