Doesn’t sound like you have a lot of miles on it, they get better after around 5000 miles

    680~ miles? 1100km.

I trust you guys about the break-in period but the the thing is the dealer techs say the same thing and you know they're just saying it so you get out of their face. Have a hard time believing it until I feel it, but here goes.

My buddy has a stock Jeep Grand Cherokee that shifts harder than mine after my fluid level got fixed. Seriously, call corporate and start a case to at least get it checked.

Take it to them OP and don't let up! Make sure you can replicate that hard shifting you got'em by the Balls now.

Definitely give it more time, you will loose probably around 4000 trading in this early. The truck will get better, and you will adjust to how the truck likes to be driven.

I have a case opened but these corporate guys don't seem to have much pull. This manager I have just spoke with the two service managers I met with and told me "you know, Joey told me it drove very well after the ECU flash and Timmy really thought it drove like a dream...". I don't expect much from these guys and I don't have the personality to viciously yell at someone for hours just so they give me an extra year on the warranty or 3 free oil changes or whatever they're allowed to use to calm people down.

Give it a couple more months first. I had a 2nd gen taco that would part seas when I floored it before my 3rd gen. I wasn't too happy initially either - definitely a learning curve for you and the truck.

Just out of curiosity, what was the incentive to a five year lease?

The payments were more comfortable if we're being honest. I have to defer to guys with more klicks on their trucks so...I'll hang in there as long as I can. But man is it unnerving. You'll just be driving home from work or doing errands and then you get consumed by how weird and uncomfortable the truck drives. It's hard to ignore.

LOL thanks brother. This put a smile on my face, appreciate it!

Odd, not at all questioning your experience but mine was different. Transmission slip and shifted into neutral. I was super nice/tried to be helpful in diagnosing (not that you weren't), very detailed, and documented stuff if I could on paper in case they could trace a thrown code. Can you find someone with a similar model/year Tacoma and have them drive it around with you for their opinion?

    Well I'm going to be sitting beside the service manager at my dealer when he burns some of my gas on Thursday so we'll see how that shakes down. I guess I could offer to try a new 2018 to test it out but my concern is two-fold;

    A) My truck is defective and I need to prove this beyond a shadow of a doubt for anyone to do anything about it.

    or

    B) My truck is normal and this is just how 3rd gens are in which case there's no fixing it anyway and I better get used to being moved forward and backward in my seat everyday.

Yeah it feels awkward in the beginning. I'm at around ~8000mi. Shifts better, just still a slug in comparison. When I first drove it highway home from the dealer I was rather upset. It didn't know what it wanted to do as far as shifting in any RPM range. Good luck with whatever you decide. I'd recommend holding out a little longer though unless money isn't a factor.

Option b, but if they put 4.30 gears in the automatic v6 it would have fixed most everyone’s complaints about being under powered and shifting all the time

I got out of my 4 year Honda Ridgeline lease after 4 months and got into a Tacoma lease. All it cost me was half the admin fee to transfer to a new owner. I advertised it on kijiji and waited for someone who wanted it. Took a few weeks to find an interested party.

Tacomas are very popular and since you're on a 5 year lease your payment must be pretty decent. So consider having it transferred to someone as that is your most cost effective way of getting out.

Leasing is good is you own a business, for personal use not so much, I always just hear the bad from them.
If it's just the transmission you don't like there's etc, S mode and manual mode to bypass programed performance.
But my guess is that's not all there is in your case, and that's alright, we all make mistakes and vehicles are so stupid expensive now its the only way some can drive one for the time being.

That said, if you must get out, look everywhere and find some dealer willing to cut you a good deal when sales are slow, but sleep on it before you sign. You never know you might get a better final offer, its how some ppl I know have gotten out of a bad situation.

    Cheers!

Will do. Money is a factor but not that that tight either. I'm not trying to drag race so being a slug is fine, it's mainly wanting smooth operation. But yeah I've had those moments when 10 year old econoboxes are passing me going uphill and I'm just sitting there like "really Toyota?".

No, it really is just the tranny! I want to love this truck sooooo bad. But I just keep reading up on how people have been doing this dance with Toyota dealers since 2015 and there has been no change since, it starts to feel like you made a bad decision.
