Well, the biggest problem I see from ppl is they listen too much into what they read here. Its a great forum, but the bad stuff happens to less than .05% but they make most of the noise about it.

The transmission is fine and one of the best ever made out there, but you don't hear that from anyone less they get hammered by some dumass.
But I can say that cause I'm the hammer. :D

    Cheers!

His situation would be exactly the same if the financed the Tacoma at this point.

That may make op feel better, but in reality, its complicated.

Thing is I didn't notice much on the test drive. It was only after having it for a few days that it kicked in that something was gong on.

I guess I should have done an extended test drive? 100% my responsibility. You have to understand that 5 weeks ago I thought Tacomas shit gold. Trust me I have learned my lesson.

That being said my not researching this truck as much as I should have does not alleviate accountability from Toyota for a lack of quality control and/or poor engineering, which ever turns out to be the case.

These newer trucks are NOT the Japanese made great trucks of years gone by,not even close.Toyota is just a name now with not much else behind it.

Eh. My engine/drivetrain are made in Japan, so I don’t agree 100%

I love my 2015 Tacoma, but it is not near as well built as my brothers 1980 Hilux, just saying.

Someone should get into the business of licencing and building new 1980s Hiluxs. Charge something reasonable like $18k new and I promise you they'd out sell all of these drive by wire clunkers.

They would never pass Safety and Emissions but would be cool nonetheless.

True. See in theory there should be no problem incorporating the latest safety features and eco friendly innovations without mucking about with strange dime counting transmission computer logic.

Give me a predictable analog truck, tidy up the emissions the best you can, slap some uber tech safety stuff on and call it a day. Not asking for the world here.

If I could buy a brand new 1st Gen, I'd buy that over anything new out there, believe me. I love the new tech, but on a vehicle that's out there exposed to all sorts of easy damage of all kind, not so much

Don't get all antsy there Sparky. No they wouldn't. Very very few want old tech and they weren't that great. Run Forever? Sure. Comfortable? Nope. Power? Nope.
I suggest you quit reading here. Toyota sells a buttload of Tacomas just like yours and most love them. The ones who don't? They come here looking for people to commensurate with about their problems.
Drive it awhile. Drive it like you stole it. Use the ECT button. If you still hate It, get rid of it. Life is too short man to be sad.

Oh, that splains it. The 3.7L V6 Dakota was also my work car, my personal car was a S10 Blazer 4x4. I had a different vehicle to compare it too- I should have said it was fast compared to a S10. :)

If you're that unhappy, take your bath and get the car/truck/bike/bus/train you want. Financially its gonna suck no matter what you do, dealerships love lease remorse.

Life's too short to drive something you hate.

I'l take your advice but let's not kid ourselves here, the 3rd gen driving characteristics are highly controversial to say the least. I'm not randomly finding problems to complain about, some of the longest threads in the 3rd gen sub forum can attest to that.
