I had a 1st Gen that was compacted by Tacoma. They bought it back for frame rust, it was a 2000.

Not supposed to but I’ve gotten away with it for 2 1/2 years. As long as you’re not being a Jackass they usually leave you alone. Same way with window tint, it’s not something they pull you over for specifically but will hit you up for if they pull you over speeding or just being a jerk.

I also had a 2000 that Toyota bought back for frame rust. The compactor was the fate of my beloved 1st gen? That’s sad but I guess the only real option.

They treated me very well. I paid $13k for the truck in 2003 and after driving it for 7 years they gave me $11,775 for it.

I bought the truck brand new in 2000, kept it until 2010. Had 148k on the clock and got right around $11-12k. I was quite happy with what I got.

I bought my second gen a week later after looking at Jeep Wrangers first. Glad I stuck with the Tacoma!

I was pleasantly surprised. They paid 150 % over KBB.

Adding an OEM skid plate is a great mod. Stick to a mild lift, 2-3 inches. Makes all the difference and you'll avoid lots of problems. My seat spacers and softopper have been my favorite mods so far. I also replaced my stock bottle jack, and added some Safe Jack extensions. Need to install a safe in my center console next.
