Hi, I was wondering what the best shocks for going fast through bumpy terrain where without spending a ton. I am looking to pay under 1k but I would pay 1.5k max. Thanks!

That is a tall order. Fast bumpy terrain with a large and heavy vehicle is going to cost way more than 1.5k. 2WD or 4WD? Is this on your daily or a side vehicle? Even the expensive stuff on the 2WD rigs has to be serviced often and things are constantly breaking.

It’s a 4wd and also my daily, I’m not looking for long travel or anything of that caliber just something that can handle the bumps better than the stock shocks.

@Bishop84 Does the lowest setting give the most travel?

Too bad this wasn't last year, there were older TRD Pro kits that was basically just this setup for $550. Throw in some bumpstops, control arm, leaf, good to go.

Just shocks no leaf springs needed?
Ive been asking myself this as well cuz I end up camping deep in the desert backcountry and ripping down dirt roads for an hour or two.
Thinking you’d (we’d) want something with remote rezzy’s but thats prob gonna be more than 1500.
You can scratch just over 2 grand with the level 3 fox kit (non adjustable) from Headstrong, that’d definitely get you good heat dissipation.
Im probably gonna go with the dobinsons full kit cuz i need leaves too, those dobinson shocks are wider diameter than my stock shocks so they should provide better heat dissipation and for 1500 thats a quality complete lift in my budget.

Travel is the same, but softer ride is the biggest goal. Preload means stiffer and bouncier, but higher ride height.

@Bishop84 is the lowest setting any higher than stock? I was hoping to get 33s but do 32s allow for extra travel?

If you want 33's *(285's) you'll need upper arms and possibly a cab mount chop. You don't need them but I hate the idea of rubbing. You could run the 255's 33's but not many like the skinny look. You'd set it to the top clip.

32's are the simple answer (265 70 17's) and they are the best for daily driving. Plus they are cheaper so you can buy a better tire with less worry on cost.

"best desert shocks" and "under 1k" don't belong in the same sentence lol

Fox, King, ADS... all comes down to tuning and valving it correctly for your setup. If you won't be doing any of that pic your favorite color scheme and go with that brand.

Also you say shocks, but I'd imagine you need coilovers (front) and shocks (rear)?

I do need coil overs and my #1 option so far is Bilstein 6112 with the 5160 rear just curious if there are any better options

I've been running the 6112 for over 50k miles, was a huge upgrade from stock and I'd imagine it will probably handle everything you ever throw at it.

I have mine set on the 4th notch for around 2.5inches of lift so they are a tad stiff due to the preload on the coil, but they have served me well. There's always better, all depends on how much you want to spend. My best advice would be to save longer if need be and don't settle on something just for the price. Get what you want and drive the piss out of your truck

Have you ever taken them to the desert? If so how do they handle over the small to medium bumps? Also what size tire are you running?

I have, and not really impressed. I also have uniball UCA's, and wheelers superbumps.

I'm going long travel as soon as things begin to normalize with the virus going around. So that answers that lol

I was probably going to throw them in the trash but if you're interested I'll ship them to you if you just cover shipping and maybe an extra 10$ for beer lol
