Good question! why don't you get a job and buy a new truck in 5 years.
It will be good for you and our economy, and it won't pollute our esthetic's
    either.
    And take care

You have a better chance to do it if you drive 300k highway miles in 10 years or less...300k city miles over 20 years, not so much.

    Sad but true. :(

Yeah it will take another 20 years for me to hit 300k, I only do about 10-12k/year. At this point I fully intend to drive it until the wheels fall off. But if it has too many recurring issues before the wheels fall off, I will probably dump (sell?) it and get something newer.

Hope it lasts, I have 58 payments to go!

my girlfriend has a 1995 bmw 325I with 225K on it, it is literally falling apart. But it doesnt burn any oil, it leaks out about a court every 2 tanks of gas only 2 doors still work but it really rides drives and still even looks good, still has good power and she drives it like she is 16. its on the original everything except radiator.

If that can make it with the way that she drives it if I didn't tow 6000 lbs all the time i would really expect mine to make it.

Keep it out of mud and water and it will last forever, all other offroading in my book is ok.

I bought my 1999 4x4 tacoma because I wanted to get 350-400 K out of it. I don't race mine, or ford flowing rivers, I paid for mine and want to keep it driveable. Sure I am in the market for front and rear shocks and I need rear springs, not because I wheel it but because I do haul timber once in a while, go out geocaching, and generally like to lock in the hubs whenever I can. I plan on this truck to be around for a long while, otherwise, why in the hell did I buy it? 160000 miles to date. Looking forward to many more.

^This. The electrical is all Toyota proprietary control units. The mechanical stuff is easy, I suspect that relying on Toyota to produce or provide 20 year old electronics in the future is going to be very difficult.

My 86 F250 diesel just hit 550K original engine trans and drivetrain.... replaced other things though, but made in a day when things were built to last.... all mechanical systems, fuel pump, etc. None of that fancy computer garbage filled with lowest bidder microchips and components to fail.... I dont expect my taco to go over 200K. If it does I will be pleasantly surprised.

The 80's and 90's toyota trucks can do it no problem because they were overbuilt and simplified for reliability with barely any creature comforts and complex electrical systems. I am sure all you guys saw that awesome Top gear toyota hilux video:D

I think the engine and transmission on the new tacos can goto 300k if you take care of it, going to need to swap out all the peripherals though.

My thoughts exactly! Every high mileage success story I have ever seen, regardless of make or model, has been on a vehicle that was driven constantly once warmed up for the day. I've seen numerous 10 year old Nissan and Toyota trucks with 400K on them. I've also seen domestic V8s with that kind of mileage on them. But it's always a lot of miles in a short period of time. Mechanical stuff does not like to sit.

My '88 was pushing 400K and going strong. Sure things go out, but the basic truck was solid up until it got stolen at the '09 Baja 1,000. Frankly I love the new truck a lot more, but I wouldn't have been able to upgrade if mine hadn't disappeared.

    1) How is ethanol going to decrease the life expectancy of the vehicle?

    2) Last time I filled up, they still sold regular unleaded.

It was. 2,500 miles, 2 engine rebuilds and original tires. The thing was wicked on tracks and back roads, but failure was definitely an option. I sold it.

I love seeing old, well maintained trucks with really high mileage. My brothers 1st generation V-8 Tundra has about 200K and still going strong. My '06 2.4 Camry has 109k and I hope that it will be my 12 year-old son's first vehicle assuming it's still reliable in 4 years. The reason I bought Toyotas is due the anticipated longevity/reliability.
