Didn't consider it to be a real posibility until they recently announced the i-Force Max Branding for the TRD Pro Tacoma, which they have only used on the Tundra's 6 cyl hybrid engine.

Every other 4 cyl engine simply has Hybrid or Hybrid max naming.

Here is hoping they actually do mean that it will be the 6 cyl hybrid turbo from the Tundra, that would make the MSRP of the TRD Pro quite compelling.

zero they learned their lesson with putting the same 4.7 V8 in the 4Runner and the Sequoia. Most people would want the power, not the size of the vehicle.

maybe I was too young at that time to remember this.

Did they cancel V8 due to poor sales? I would love to have a V8 4Runner or whatever in the current GX460 engine in this gen 4Runner. That 4.0L V6 is potent but not fast

Not sure if it was the price of gas at the time or EPA/CAFE requirements but the 4.7 V8 2UZ ran the entire 4th gen run from 2003-2009. I have one in fantastic condition and will probably keep it forever. The 2UZ is arguably one of Toyota's best engines ever. The numbers don't do it justice because the 4.0 V6 looks similar on the HP the big difference is in the Torque. Mid 2005 MY they updated the 4.7 V8 to the VVTI setup which upped the HP too.

That extra power is pointless unless you just like going fast.

Beauty of a rig you have. "CrazyJ505" on instagram has a sweet SAS'd V8 4th gen.

No way Toyota does that again.

I guess I should’ve specified torque not necessarily HP. Although the 2 often go hand in hand.

I've seen that one also Sherpa Equipment Co. has a sweet setup. I was trying to keep the 4Runner OEM+ but starting to get the itch to tinker with it more.

Very clean looking Runner. Keep it for sure.

I'm going to buck the curve and say maybe they'll do a NA version or single turbo version of the 3.5 v6 that's in the Tundra. If all they show up with is the same 2.4 turbo that's in the Highlander I'm going to be really disappointed. Especially since Chevy's 2.7 mops the floor with anything we've seen so far.

I think historically they should have done what they did with the current tundra and reserve the hybrid/supercharged application for the pro trim. If the current Tacomas has something a little extra special under the hood it would help to differentiate it and compete with the more spirited competitor options.

But you really have to hold on to some amount of hope, somewhere in your heart. That Toyota will finally grow a set, and put a bigger motor in it! Something bigger than the other guys...

Who knows, maybe a motor swap from Tundra to Tacoma will be able to be done?? Supposably the Tacoma uses the same frame.

The i Force MAX in the Tacoma will be more powerful than the current V6. Speculation is it will have the same engine choices as the Grand Highlander specs shown here...

But I am talking about the current hybrid V6 turbo in the tundra. Swapping that if it doesn't have the option.

    i-FORCE MAX 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6 Hybrid: 437 hp @ 5200 rpm, 583 lb-ft

I think that will do. I would like to think that we would all agree on this. The ChevMC has the option for 430 hp with a dealer tune on that turbo 4 of theirs. I would like to see Toyota step up to the plate. And drive that point across all of their noses.

I wouldn't buy a 430 HP Tacoma. Why do you need so much HP?
