What are the chances that it's gonna have the Tundra's engine?

Isn't the engine in the Tundra packed in there kind of tight? It probably wouldn't fit in the Tacoma.

Ranger Raptor is the truck you have to buy if you want hp and torque.

It also sounds as if Toyota is going with a 6spd automatic for the Tacoma.

The real question is why wouldn’t we want that kind of horsepower?

The new tacundra will have the same motor, with higher end getting more performance, but just not setup the way it would be in a heavier truck.

No way the new Tacoma gets the twin-turbo V6. It just won't physically fit, and the fuel economy isn't good enough for a mid-size truck slugging it out against all-new competition.

Expect a couple of turbo 4-cylinder options (possibly non-turbo in base model?), and a hybrid of course.

They are going to offer a manual 6-speed, believe I read somewhere...

To pass that pesky short bus! the current gen tacoma can't do it on a on ramp to the freeway. Joking aside...having more hp and tq is helpful in merging onto freeway/highway speeds also passing someone when you need to on a two lane highway. On my current truck I gotta hit the ludicrous speed just to get around a vehicle, which isn't ideal when you are loaded down with gear or people.

I would and plenty others, I mean people have been asking for a high powered version of it for years and now were are most likely looking at a 350+HP Tacoma and Possibly 430+HP, what's not to like?

The current 6 cyl fits just fine and even with modded turbos, also both the Tundra and Tacoma are built on the same frame.

Don't see why they couldn't make it fit.

If it does end up having a 4 cyl, nobody is gonna swap the 6 cyl, it would be a colossal waste of money.

Better off just tuning the 4cyl.

Something bigger than the other guys...

The Nissan Frontier has the "biggest" motor you can get in a new mid-size truck, a normally aspirated 4.0 liter V6.

The new Colorado is available with the turbocharged 2.7 liter I4, the same motor GM has been using in some of the full-size trucks. It is powerful and has so much torque the motor has garnered a lot of attention...

The Frontier hasn't had the 4.0 for a few years, believe it's a 3.8 now.

Toyota isn't gonna put the 3.4 TT V6 in the Tacoma because it diminishes the lure of having a bigger, more powerful Tundra. Sure, Ford is doing it with their 2.7 EcoBoost, but the Ranger only comes in a crew cab short box config, unlike the Taco which will have a large bed option.

If the Highlander turbo is offered you’re going to have enough power. In highlander trim it makes 310 pound feet at 1700 rpm. Compare that with 264 @4400 rpm currently and I’m sure that would be more than adequate.

I have an 06 V8 4R, it is a great engine in that size vehicle. I ordered a Gibson exhaust and will probably install DT headers next. That should bring the engine up to 300 HP and about 360 torque and sound like an 85 Mustang. The 4.6 V8 in the 5th gen 4R would have been perfect. Too bad Toyota is going turbo and hybrid.

Ford is having to offer the 2.7 V6 EcoBoost engine in the new Ranger, because of the potent 4-banger GM is offering in the Colorado. The HT version of the 2.7 turbo I4 GM motor makes 430 lb-ft of torque...which is astonishing!

Sharp looking truck indeed. I always wanted a V8 4Runner for that low end torque that the V6 lacks. Let me know if you don't want to keep it.

As much as I don’t want this to be true, it makes a lot of sense. Toyota won’t drop the same motor/power output as the tundra into the Tacoma (marketing reasons). I’d be totally stoked if they did though lol. It would be highly desired IMO - assuming pricing wasn’t ridiculous
