    OK, fun post.

What are the chances that the Gen 4 Taco has the Gen 3 Tundy engine?

Two words if it does: rocket ship!

Also, what are we thinking on Gen 4 Taco, 2024?

    Thanks.

The new ranger and gm minis are scheduled for a 23my release. So figure new taco around then. The new taco gonna look like a smaller tundra with similar front end but still have the same 3.5 we have, but with a better transmission

    this and that...
about as much of a chance as toyota putting a bmw motor in one of their vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.

Hybrid? Most certainly will be an option. 3.5L twin turbo V6? Not a chance.

Maybe a turbo 4 cylinder like in the Ranger though. Toyota seems to think Ford is on to something

Exactly the same as the chance of getting a diesel option.

A turbo 4 hybrid sounds plausible.

I think they know they need to advance in the engine department.

The existing 3.5 will be gone. There is a chance we could get the tundra V6 but naturally aspirated. Also, we are likely to get a 2.4 or a 2.5 twin turbo.

There is no way that a v6 will be in the next tacoma. It will be a 4 cylinder and a 4 cylinder hybrid.

My money’s on there being no V6 available in the next gen Tacoma.

I'm thinking it will be a turbo 4, with a hybrid option to bring past 325HP and good torque. NA Engines are going the way of the dodo.

A big I4 hybrid would be sweet.

Toyota will probably drink the koolaid and make the engine smaller then turbo/super charge it or make it a hybrid. The days of engines lasting multiple 100K miles will be gone. Pressure to increase mileage is too strong. Immediate mileage wins out to durability and long life. The environmentalist would wig out if they put in a big high performance engine in a top selling truck. Both GM and Ford are putting tiny engines in their best selling models then beat them like a rented mule to do the work of a large engine. Engines die early when they do this.

    Turbo I4.

    ..and it ain't gonna be some cast iron 2TR throwback;

..and it will have more bottom end than both the current GR and the former super stump puller to end all tiny super derrzul-like NA V6 engines.

Toyotas 2.5 Hybrid package producing 219 to 302 HP is being used quite successfully in a variety of it's SUVs. No reason why this couldn't be used in the Taco. A four cylinder turbo is certainly a possibility but the 3.5 v6 days are numbered.

That last stand for the dual VVTI 4.0 that currently lives in the T4R is done too.
Too bad they never used that config in a 2nd gen turd.
    Oh well.

Are you deliberately referencing the Supra? You know it has a BMW made straight 6 with a manual.
