4 cyl. turbo, hopefully a hybrid option with a e motor between engine and trans similar to what they are doing with the Tundra. Sadly I fear the manual trans will be no more.

    0. For the same reasons it doesn’t currently have a 5.7L V8

If it gets a turbo six, which I doubt, it'll be twin not a single turbo. 4 turbo is more likely but the new Ranger is rumored to be getting the 2.7 ecoboost. A small turbo six in the new taco would make me trade mine in.

New engine is very easy to predict. Because it will be an existing toyota power plant likely used elsewhere. So I’m guessing it’ll be the 2.5 with some sort of hybrid power train.

Well look at the tundra bigger , heavier, and does bigger things . Twin turbos make sense . Now Tacoma I think a single turbo setup would be just fine and yes I would hope you would like to get one .

The new Tacoma base engine will be based on the corporate 2.5 liter hybrid that is found in multiple vehicle lines (RAV4, Sienna, Camry, etc). The optional engine will be a plug in hybrid similar to the RAV4 Prime which is the quickest vehicle Toyota manufactures (BMW manufactures the Supra engine). Fuel mileage will likely double across the line from the current absymal EPA ratings. Toyota knows the Tacoma is a fun, play truck and sells on looks, price, reputation for durability and resale value. Hopefully they won't screw up that part.

The Plug in Hybrid Taco will be a huge hit for pest control/pool/landscapers/etc that are generally roaming around the city/town. With Fed tax credits it will be a no-brainer for many.

My RAV4 is quite a bit lighter (3,800 lbs) than current Gen 3, but still have a hard time getting under 42 mpg on a tank. A 275 hp hybrid in the Taco should see at least 30-33 mpg which would be a huge improvement. My basic (i.e., lightweight) SR access cab 4wd w/2.7 liter four struggled to get 20 mpg and with a whopping 159 hp (about 138 or so at the wheels) was pretty anemic.

3 cylinder turbo hybrid, in the Pro. 3cyl turbo non hybrid in all other trims. 10 speed transmission like the Tundra.

That's not how turbos work. You don't just take one off for lower power. If they wanted less power they'd either tune it out or put smaller turbos.

Modern turbos are mounted either directly to the exhaust port or really close to it. To have a single turbo on a v engine you'd need to plumb the exhaust together at the turbo and make the turbo larger. Both lead to turbo lag, not what you want.

Unless the made a hot v turbo setup but that would still likely be twins.

Whatever they come up with we'll squeeze more power out of it just like we did current v6. Tune it yes

I'm aware that the Supra has a BMW powertrain, but you added the manual trans part in your earlier post. That's what I was interested in, since to date I've never seen anything but an 8 speed slushbox mentioned...
Paired to the I6, just to be clear.

At this time TMK no manual trans however. They keep speculating a supra will come with that option.... someday.

We're in the age of stupid where what comes out of the tailpipe is considered "worse for the environment" than mining materials, manufacturing parts, and hauling all of that around the world 10 different ways to build an entirely new vehicle every 5-7 years or 120k miles. I expect a hybrid you can't fix yourself. I'm hoping for a turbo 4 cylinder with a manual in all cabs and trims. :fingerscrossed:

If they copy Ford they could go for a much smaller v6 TT. Fords got the 2.7 TT eco boost. That motor would be perfect for a truck the size of a Tacoma. I think the TT 3.5 ecoboost would be too heavy/too tight of a fit for a midsize truck. But the 2.7 could probably fit in there. Screw the hybrid shit, a TT V6 can be reliable and check pretty much every box a Tacoma owner would need. Unless 4th gen owners run 40’s regularly and refuse to re gear.
