They should put a detuned 3.4TT in the Tacoma. Why even waste time using a different engine? Just slap the smaller body on it and call it a day.

If that 3.4TT makes it into the next generation 4Runner, I'll become an SUV guy real quick.

PHEV Tacoma with slightly more torque/power and at least same towing/payload capacity with rear coils and rear discs would be the perfect vehicle for me, to be honest.

Most of my commute being covered by the electric motors while still being able to tow the travel trailer out to the coast and back? Yes please.

This is what I'm hoping for. An I4 Turbo-Hybrid with around 300hp would be perfect. Even better, give me 20-10 miles of plug-in EV-only range. Perfection.

Also, the US Tacoma will share the new world truck platform, apparently.

    https://www.thedrive.com/news/42516...nner-will-share-hiluxs-global-platform-report

Now that the details of the new Tundra ladder frame have been revealed, Toyota is apparently back at work refining another new platform, this time for small trucks.

According to a report by MotorTrend, this includes the virtually indestructible (watch this YouTuber try to destroy it and fail) Hilux pickup, which was edged out in the U.S. market by the Tacoma in the 1990s and is wildly popular in other parts of the world. The Hilux's siblings Tacoma and 4Runner will reportedly be hitching a ride on the upcoming platform as well.

That’s a cheap, boring and politically correct way of designing new vehicles.

Under 3.5l Turbo Hybrid. No way they won't do a hybrid now the Tundra has one.

If they switch to a 4link suspension in the rear it will have disc brakes otherwise drums

That's the whole point of the TNGA-F platform. They are all supposed to be on the same architecture to save costs. Why even waste the effort to have a different engine option for any of the vehicles? They can just swap out/in different ECUs.

For the Same matter, why do they even have a Prado, Gx460, Fortuner, 4runner? Just slap on different Grilles, same engine same everything else. Maybe the GX460 has more luxury items and that's it.

Saves money for Toyota, price always goes up for us though. Plus, no more V8 for Tundra when the rest of the competition offers way more options.

gm still has the 6.2, ford still has the 5.0, ram still has the 5.7. The 6.2 still puts almost every other half ton engine offering to shame, other than fords new tt hybrid and the tundras new hybrid.

I can’t help but get the impression of Toyota being cheap with this truck. Taking away options as important as an engine choice. Toyota used to offer the 4.0, 4.7/4.6 and 5.7 at simultaneously.

    this and that...
the 4.0 was so anemic in the tundra! reminds me back in 2010 when toyota first launched the 5th gen t4r they had the 2.7 as an engine option. needless to say it was shortlived as it got phased out almost immediately.

Toyota should build a Lexus version of the new Tundra with a plug in battery electric drive train., and offer an F Sport grade.

In Europe from 2014 to 2018 Toyota sold vehicles with BMW engines and manual transmissions.
