when the 2020s drop later this year what do you think the chances are that you could buy an oem infotainment system and swap them out with your 16-19 system? Having the apple CarPlay would be huge and I’d be willing to spend them money for the new system if it could work

100% possible, been confirmed here by a person who took a part in designing it.

You likely won't like the price of the new head unit. I'm will to bet it will be on par with the cost of the Alpine plug and play

The lone reason I thought about waiting. And if it's on par with the Alpine, it may be worth it, assuming seamless integration with the steering wheel controls, etc.

You thinking 500 or 1000 bucks?

Mazda has offered a retrofit (for 400 bucks I think) for their older systems. I didn't deem it worth it in my car, and that was basically for a software update and an extra usb plug.

I’m really considering making that swap if it’s compatible and less than $2k ... also considering the led headlights and adjustable seat as well.

Nope part number 8680404120 for the 16-18 head unit is over $4200. I imagine the one with Carplay will be even higher.

Sell or trade your truck in it likely won't be economically worth it, it might be at some point well into the future when people start wadding up 2020's.

bra, from a dealership they're going to be $3k+ easy. The current head units are $1,500 REFURBISHED.

Either way an Alpine will be superior and <$1,500 installed so I'd just go Alpine, and the best part is OP won't have to wait he can do it right now :)

I've been wondering about the potential of installing the driver's power seat too. I'd so love to be able to change the angle and height of the seat bottom.

Wow. My salesman told me it was over $3,000 when he was trying to sell me on the extended cover everything for a long time dealership warranty. Just laughed and said no thanks. Told him if the head unit ever goes bad itll be the first and last Toyota I ever buy.

I'd imagine takeoff stock head units will be considerably cheaper than what toyota is asking

And they're going to to be taking them out to replace with what? The Alpine? It's not likely I just looked at the Alpine reviews, and they're not that good.

This isn't moms CB7 Accord where she upgrades and one can pickup the stock head unit to install in their EF Civic. Car audio is dead as hell these days and OEM's did it.

That sounds a little too dramatic I bet she relayed the info directly to Mr. Toyoda.
