$85 for shipping is absurd. I paid less than $100 for mine, and that included shipping.

OP has all this time spent put into a complaint when it could have been spent finding a better price on the bedmat.

Camelback sells them for like $85 shipped.

$120 on Amazon sort of sucks...in light of complaints over shipping costs.

I sourced an online listing from an actual Toyota dealer who would sell a 3rd gen bed mat for $97 shipping included. Was getting ready to place my order, and my wife said I should call my hometown dealer and see if they price match. I really was doubtful, but when I called, he said as long as I could prove that a Toyota dealership was doing that, he would match their shipped price. I mentioned that the online purchase would be tax free. He said he had to charge sales tax, but he could lower the price to account for the difference. Win / win, I was able to buy locally. Drove over and picked it up.
The cheap online price was from Evans Toyota. FYI

Us folks in Hawaii are used to the BS that most of the sellers online exclude Alaska and Hawaii from all free shipping offers. Even if the item is a few ounces and will cost the same to ship to the rest of the 48 states. I have had my order cancelled many times due to shipping rates not being accurate for "Hawaii" and they gouge us with insane prices to ship here. I guess I am just use to it and I ALWAYS make sure I read the shipping fine print before ordering. I must say I give Amazon credit since they do ship some crazy stuff to Hawaii and I always wonder how they make money when they need to pay shipping. Probably they do so much volume that the shipping rates are half of what other vendors may have to pay for the same item. Prime isnt no 2 days shipping however, but it is, what it is....

I was patiently waiting for someone to mention Hawaii and the BS about shipping. I get it, we are on an island but a flat rate USPS priority box is the same price here as it is in the middle of Texas. Shipping does take a little longer....

but as you state....it is..what it is.

Have to agree with OP - if you list a bed mat online, how hard is it to flag it for extra shipping (hint: it's not), or note it in the description... etc. That way patrons are blind sided with BS like this.

I bought 2 from @gunny1005 and my cousin bought 1 from him. We got ours in less than a week. His deal was $85.40 each, including shipping. He is a standup guy!

Had a similar issue with trying to buy steps. Got an email for a discounted priced. Called up dealer and he added $120 for shipping when I could just come pick it up in person.

Just did a dry run on a purchase and nowhere did it specify bulky item or any shipping cost. I would have assumed free shipping as well as all the evidence pointed to that. I don’t think it was intentional though, just a poorly run website.

Not reading the terms and conditions is one thing, but if you put the item your cart, and throughout the checkout process it said $0.00 shipping, that is 100 percent on the dealer, so I'm all the way with you OP. Now, if your order confirmation AND THE MOTHERFUCKING RECEIPT said free shipping, then this shouldn't even be a question, sort of astounded that some people here are defending the seller. That is some nasty bullshit.

Hopefully you get your situation resolved OP

Looking for opinions here. The president of the dealership contacted me and offered a free bedmat if I removed the 7 reviews (one each) I left on various sites.

We had a little back and forth where I informed him that I'd already bought another bedmat. He's now offering to send me a check for the amount I paid for that one if I modify or remove my reviews.

Do I stick to my guns on this or do I allow the dealer off the hook? I see both sides of it.

Stick to your guns. If anyone ever bribes me at the cost of my reviews (generally on Amazon) I'll leave my original review, but change my star rating for the better and add the edit at the very beginning stating they wanted to make things better. That way the info is still out there

I personally would take him up on his offer to make good on a situation that was an honest mistake on their part. Unless they flat out lied to you, stuff does happen and everyone makes mistakes and unfortunately, not everything will always be right with online ordering systems. Most companies wouldnt even offer to buy you your bed mat, so to me, it seems they want to do right by you and not lose other potential customers for this mistake.

I agree with this. Having done the dry run on checking out, I think it was just a mistake on their part with the website. I think whomever contacted you about the shipping should have his ass chewed out though. I would adjust the rating and mention they worked with you to fix their error.

Shipping should show up in your cart. Period. If I got hit like that I'd be pissed too. At the very least some kind of notification saying additional shipping charges will apply should be included in the cart.

It's not like the dealer went ahead and just charged $85 for the shipping costs, but instead they contacted OP noting a goof up. The business didn't force OP's hand. There is no shortage on retailers of Tacoma bedmats that will get it to you at cheaper cost shipping included. All he had to do is cancel and take his business elsewhere.

I'm not defending the dealership either. All I am saying is life is short, why waste time on some petty shit like this?

Showed free shipping on me when I did a dry run. On the cart page, under items shown, there's a note on free shipping on orders over $49 (but not on oversized items) and a link to their shipping policy. Under the subtotal, you can click the estimated shipping link to see shipping prices. Still showed $0 for the bed mat for me. Total price was 103.55.

I'm not ordering a mat, just wanted to see what it look like from my end and report it here.

Call them out in a manner that it is heard by other customers.....they will wonder why that are flakes and changing prices after a deal is done...I don't put up with that crap and it works to call the head honcho too
