Are there distinct visible appearance differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2 Tacomas that can easily be seen from a distance, say, pulling up next to you at a traffic light?

    Massive.

    Just google 2004 tacoma
    And 2005 tacoma

Then for more fun, 2011 tacoma, and 2012 tacoma.

2005-2015 are all 2nd gens with some facelifts between the years.

The 2nd Gen is much bigger, for starters...

My uncle has owned numerous "mini trucks" in his life; A couple Mazda B-series and a Dodge D50, as well as a few 1980s and 1990s Toyota pickups, and two 2002 Tacomas, including an S-runner he bought new. He taught me how to drive stick in his '91 Toyota pickup!

My uncle has seen and sat in my truck, and he says that I did make a good choice in buying a Tacoma in terms of pretty much everything (reliability, resale value, build quality, etc), but that he'd never buy a 2nd Gen Tacoma because they're too big for him.

Also, in my opinion the 1st Gens are more angular and boxy, while the 2nd Gens are more rounded off...

There's a difference between 2005-2010 and 2011, something with the grille and headlights that I can't quite figure out. Regardless, the 2011 styling was unique to that year...

Also, @PROseur will not hesitate to say that the 2nd Gen is downright ugly!

    On the inside though...

I heard that all 1st Gens, and the 2nd Gens from 2005-2007, did not have a cabin air filter for the A/C?
