To me, it is pretty common sense... shift sooner so your engine doesn't have to work as hard... don't hit that pedal on the right any harder than you have to. Between 60-70mph is the sweet spot on the hwy.

I'd rather spend the $160 on the eco tech thingy than a computer myself but still awaiting more reviews on it.

I do wonder if a tonneau cover will make much of a difference. Again, the return on investment for those is outrageous... and I'd want a fiberglass one as I had a jeep a while back and the top kept getting cut to get into it even though I'd leave the doors open to make it easier for the thieves... geeesh...

I've been running synthetic for a while and didn't notice a difference. Winter mileage is still 18-19. It might be better, but I don't keep track of decimal places.

Filled up yesterday, worst fill up yet. Drove entirely in town on this tank, drove it nice the entire tank, gradual acceleration and even gas pedal once up to speed, not once over 2000 RPM's. I have 5800 miles on it, I also have 32" tires and a 3" lift.

    I got 12.6 miles per gallon I think I have a lemon. Oh and it's a 08 DB LB 4x4 4.0L V6.

With bigger tires.. you can't use the odometer, it's no longer accurate. Actually, the stock 245/75r16s on mine were still about 2-3 mph off what my GPS was showing... that's assuming the GPS is more accurate.

I put some different tires on, 255/70r16 Duelers and the odometer seems to be pretty accurate now. They're more aggressive looking tires so that will surely take a small toll on the mileage.

Driving in stop and go will KILL your mileage. My scangauge shows me I get 16 to 17 mpg with my I4 when I go thru downtown Providence to avoid highway traffic jams.

Nope, not a lemon, just a truck with big tires and a big (well, sorta) motor, coupled with short trips and possibly (can't determine your location) cold weather. That's a lethal combination, mileage-wise. Even a Prius gets suck mileage in the first 5-10 minutes after start-up when the engine is cold. One 'tactic' recommended is to try to consolidate your errands; if they consist of a number of small or short trips, do the most distant one first to warm up the vehicle, then backtrack while doing the rest.

I'm interested, being new here I'm not familiar with the "eco tech thingy".....tried a search on 'eco tech' with no results. Tell me more, I'm always interested in new gizmos!;)

In one of the threads, not sure which one but maybe even this one, someone commented that Myth Busters had tested tonneau covers to see whether they made a difference, and found that they did not. This is second-hand hearsay, I have no personal experience. It would seem that they'd reduce drag at least somewhat, but maybe the cab breaks up the airflow across the bed enough that the difference in drag is minimal......

Well..........about 12 to 15 city and 16 to 18 highway. Truck almost a year old, but still only a little over 1000 miles on it. Outside readers don't get discouraged.............I made some engine mods and this can't be considered near the baseline plus I'm dragging around 285's on some heavy wheels along with 4x4 gear, procomp traction bars, and other misc. items, but it really moves quick.

The best I have got is 17MPG highway, driving at 70MPH, and with 91 octane.

The rule of thumb we were preached in the 70's and 80's was that 70 MPH costs you 20% of the MPG you'd get at 55. That'd give you about 21.25 MPG if you can manage to do 55 without getting rear ended on the highway.

So why does everybody else get better mileage than I do at 70MPH? There is no way in hell that I would be caught doing 55 on the highway!

I drive to work and home and that's about it, I do try to consolidate errands also. Everyone keeps telling me that big tires will degrade your mileage, isn't stock tires on most tacomas 31" tires? I have 32's, an inch shouldn't matter.

My stock tires are 245/16s. I'm not sure, but think that's smaller than either 31 or 32" by a bit of a margin. Tread pattern and tire pressures are also significant, as is the actual rubber composition. A large, off-road, aggressive-tread, low pressure tire is going to make a pretty big difference.

True.... But for now bumpers still cost more than gas.

I've consistantly gotten 17mpg on my first five tanks. Didn't matter if I was cruising to work at 55mph, on the freeway at 75mph, or driving up the pass to go skiing, all averaged 17mpg.

245/75/16 is 30.5". In comparison, 265/75/16 is 31.6", which I will be having installed this weekend. The interesting thing is, my speedo is off by 3mph (at 60mph, it reads 63) and the new size will just about even it out. Of course, I'll have to account for that 3.9% difference on my MPG calculations, too.

I just checked my 08' DC Sport 4by with 1600 miles and I am getting around 13.5 to 15 mpg now. But I do 90% stop and go and 10% highway driving, so I dont think you have a lemon.
