I just put a $500 deposit on this V6 manual. Lived its whole life in California and Arizona. Haven't looked at it yet in person. But, I'm told it is extremely clean with zero rust. Also told the engine and transmission have both been recently rebuilt. I'm driving over with my son to check it out in person on Thursday and would appreciate thoughts and opinions from the group.Screenshot_20240206-141558.png

My personal opinion is a firm no based on that engine and the price. It does look nice though. If they did a 3.4 swap, still no based on the price. The 3.0 in that truck from the factory is one of the worst Toyota engines ever made.

I used to have one like that but in an Xtra cab, I really liked it. While I had it I heard the stories about the engine but never had issues with mine. But I agree, that's pretty pricey.

3.slow for $16k. At that price point, no thanks. I don't care how clean or low mileage the the truck is. The 3vz ain't worth dog water in my opinion.

If it were 3.4 swapped, rear locker, all new steering and suspension, 8k no higher

Any reason for this specific model? If its for your son, reliability would be my concern.

This model mainly because I grew up with myself and my buddy's having them. I had an '88, my brother had an '87 T4R. As far as reliability, he's an 18 yr old that breaks everything he touches. His first truck was a '97 Z71 2 yrs ago that he decided to LS swap. He did all the work with a little bit of my help, mostly his buddies. It went thru 3 transmissions and 2 rear ends. He finally scrapped it and got '05 Silverado. Trans went on it shortly after he bought it, 7 months later, trans is going again. The Toyota is something to drive until he fixes his Chevy then it becomes a toy/project for both of us.

We decided to go for it, after working the price down to an agreeable number. Not a spot of rust anywhere, California/Arizona based truck. He's pretty happy, and hopefully can make it last a while. Of course we had to test the 4wd properly.

what you would expect to buy for these classics. its all about maintenance. the 3.0 had 248K on it and still ran fine before it was swapped with a 3.4.
