    indeed.
    To be completely honest, I didn’t know anything from her until I read that Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross(both from NINE INCH NAILS) were producing her(then) upcoming album: “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.”
    So, being a NIN fanatic as I am, I decided to support TR & AR by digging into this Halsey album, and once I did, I got into it. I can’t say that I’m much of a fan of her other work. But, this album at least, I like.

    Amazing.

    I visited Petra (in Jordan) a few years ago and we all wandered and stared in awe of the sandstone building carved into the living rock of the canyon walls. The thousands of years of history they depicted and the level of belief and motivation it must have taken to envision and then create such a place. I broke down and cried.

    My wife came to console me and I struggled to find the words to explain just why this was momentous for me.

    "Sweetheart, in 1988 this is where the the British synth-rock group Sisters of Mercy recorded the music video from the Side A track from their second studio album Floodland for Dominion/Mother Russia" and I remember thinking that this was, indeed, holy ground.

    she didn't talk to me for the rest of the tour.

    I attempted a deconstructive criticism of her album, but it was a real stretch in intellectual honesty for me. My conclusion, I honestly don't enjoy her music.

    as for Atticus and Reznor, those two are an amazing pair. I would add that the best part of the Reznor/NIN tracks you listed, "Into the Void" carries the best aspects of the mixing style of the Downward Spiral while remaining true to the origins of NIN as a band. I think Alan Moulder has a lot to do with that.

    If you enjoy Atticus Ross working with Trent Reznor on projects they both seem to really enjoy (typically noted by protracted, swimmy, and evocative instrumentals) I would strongly recommend the soundtrack to Ken Burns' "The Vietnam War"
    It's also my opinion that to understand the direction of the soundtrack it is best listened to accompanied by the documentary itself. I watched the visuals and listened to the soundtrack independently, then overlaid the soundtrack at timestamps I noted for myself.

    Fair warning, even though it is completely instrumental, it is powerful stuff.
