When vehicles started costing 40 50 60 thousand dollars it's hard to pay off in 3 to 5 years sometimes .

Got my first truck in 1974. It was a 1970 datsun 1600, cost me 1500 bucks but it was the fast one , the other model was the 1300.

I believe a good amount of people would like to trade in their truck or car after 5 yrs. 7-8 yrs payment is pretty much keeping you poor for a very long long long time.

There's no way anyone could say. Depends on trim, options, mileage, condition, etc etc. Best bet is to go to kbb.com and type in all the info and it will spit out a range of prices for you.

I could get an 8 year loan and my truck would still only have 70,000 miles on it max at the end of the loan. I don't see the problem if you plan on caring for it and don't have any intention of trading it in....

I am also debating to buy in March or April.

    http://www.realcartips.com/toyota-incentives/
this website seems indicating $1500 is still available in April.

Yep. Some people are stuck in the old school mentality though of paying it off ASAP, or even buying straight out. That gives you the warm fuzzies (I agree it does feel good to own it outright), but realistically, if you have a super low interest rate, financially it makes more sense to spread the payments out as much as possible.

But do get tired of people being looked down on for making different choices than others.

Do you know what trim you want SR SR5 TRD Sport Off Road PRO ? What is your budget ? 4x4 crew cab ? Decisions my friend . Shop for a month and search a few hundred miles around . If you find something you can tell us about it and we will tell if it's a deal or not , good luck .

Yes I've been searching for awhile now. Been wanting an off road 4x4 automatic, cement, short bed. I found a few 2018s with about 20k miles. One in cement with a tonneau cover, offering 35544 out the door after fighting the dealer. And a black one with a few additions offering around 36k out the door. Those are my 2 top picks. I'm working my way through the sale forum at the moment. I've been debating on maybe waiting for prices to drop due to this virus but maybe waiting isn't worth it.

Of course up to you, but at those prices I'd just get a 2020. I'm guessing you could get close to that from a dealer on a brand new truck, especially during these times. Just look at some of the prices people are getting in this thread. Sales are really slow and there is also a $1500 rebate on top of that, 90 days no payments, and low APR on loans.

Very good point. I just have trouble figuring out a reasonable price to pitch. So far I've been "unrealistic"

Go to Toyota's website and run through the build tool for the Tacomas and put in what you are looking for, or what you see on the lot. If you are comparing to something on the lot, make sure to match the exact same options and accessories. That should spit out an MSRP for you to compare. You'll probably want to target a final price (before TTL) of around ~10% off the MSRP price, and BEFORE rebates and such. (That should be pretty accurate for anything other than a Pro, which usually you are lucky to even get at MSRP on, much less below it.) That seems to be what most people are able to get off the truck. Of course you might do better or worse, depending on the dealer. Also, make sure to cross shop at multiple dealers and if nobody is giving you a good price you can try to pit them against each other.

Walk, no run away from both those deals. I'd be surprise if you don't get a call back in a week or two from that dealer with a new offer.

but....when you say out the door, what is the price of the truck(s) before TTL? That provides a better basis to assess the deal.

Good point too! I'll tease them with a reply here n there but I wouldn't give a counter offer. Just to let them sweat a bit.
