Thanks! They “ordered” it A week ago. I put it in parentheses because when they say order, they just have to find one that is in the queue to be made with the specs u want. In a way, around here in SET, ordering it saves you about $1000 because almost every truck gets Port options of paint protection film for $600 and Toyoguard for another $400. I will be ceramic coating it as soon as I get it. So don’t need the grossly overpriced protective film.

How’s everyone who has bought one recently done on their trade ins? I’ll be mainly relying on the equity of my trade plus maybe $500-$1000 down and I am scared I’m going to get lowballed due to everything going on. Also I’m new to the Toyota world being a Ford guy and all-has Toyota ever offered 0% 72 month? Is that a real possibility in the coming months?

This is the depositworthy deal I came to for my base Cement OR 4x4. (Rebate in the discount, lol). Window tint has value($180) because I am going to get that done immediately anyway and it is being done by a reputable local tint shop. I’m going to decline the pinstriping but it will still be included in the price. Current vg kbb trade value is 23,300/26,200 private(was 24k 3 weeks ago). (Btw, we sold my wife’s Camry last year via private party. After two months, got $1200 less than kbb. People crying, offering you $3000 less, insisting that it’s only worth the lower end of the good spectrum KBB, etc. What a headache)
So depending upon how you look at this due to the high trade value/(trade value at time of offer), given which we don’t have a lot of data on this thread about trade value, the range is 8.3%(PP)-16.3%(TV)
I do like to tell myself that I paid 28,600 for my truck 4 years ago and got 27000 on the trade.

Ha, i’ve been wondering the same thing about trade values. My post right after yours likely won’t help you at all with that question. A different dealer for example offered 15% of the new vehicle right off the rip but wouldn’t go above $1800 below Kelly blue book trade-in value for my truck.

I'm seriously considering going this route.
If you can wait, I feel this is a good option, considering the amount of vehicles available.

I also thought I would have an advantage with this situation but my dealer seemed like he was pretty busy

How does the ordering work? I've never done this before. Can you negotiate pricing when you do this? I'm in no rush at the moment.

I made an appointment for this Saturday to go over pricing, I am going through Costco member pricing.

It seems like a good deal, they will honor the Costco discount plus whatever Toyota incentives are available at the time of delivery.

I did not realize that there was such a demand for the Cement OR 4x4's, when I purchased mine I had a choice of several different colors and, after pondering for awhile, decided to go with the cement as I thought the color would wear better over time. Now that I have it, I see cement colored Tacos and Tundras everywhere. While I do like the color, I like the truck more, and would have been happy with just about every color except black.

I bought mine a week ago tomorrow and I was able to get blue book for my trade. Several dealerships definitely tried to lowball me though. I negotiated the price of the new Tacoma and then negotiated my trade value afterwards. I had a dealership offer me like 10k below blue book and then scoff at me when I said thanks, but no thanks.

You can absolutely negotiate pricing when “ordering”. The monetary benefit is that you only get what you want and don’t have to pay for the extras to an extent. That being said, I am paying $800 for tinted front windows and pinstriping that I’m not going to even get. When it comes down to it, if you actually care about how much you’re going to pay then read the posts on this thread for the past three months and you’ll get an idea of how much you should pay or at least what ballpark you should be in depending upon your region. Then again, in our particular situation, things are changing.

After reading this whole thread, And starting out with Costco pricing myself, I would estimate that Costco pricing gives you an 8% discount. Which is actually pretty good. these are all estimates but if you were to take all Tacoma sales combined, not the ones that are listed here on Tacoma world I bet average would be 5%. If you’re on this website and that means you care. Most people walk in blind and think they’re getting a good deal with 5% off MSRP. A lot of people like my best friend who owns a landscaping company goes and buys a truck and just says give me a good deal. His time is more valuable to him monetarily that it is to us to sit on the Internet and figure out actual price points for vehicles.

Its extremely rare and usually for prior model year clearance, Toyota doesnt need crazy incentives to sell trucks and reason they hold resale, sucks now but you'll be greatful later.

Tacobuffet.... what do you think? Based on your previous trade value how would you put the deal at what percentage so we can use the same standards for everybody?

Its sort of a mixed bag there. The new truck discount is kinda crappy especially with the rebate factored in at less than 10% but they are offering you private party value on your trade in which you could consider being another $3k towards the deal. But you can't factor that in for comparison because some don't have trades, etc. Thats why OTD is a garbage number here and we only talk % off MSRP because everyone has different taxes, trade, no trade, fees, APR rates, etc.
Personally, I've never accepted KBB trade in low value on any of my deals and always insist on private party, this isnt really hard to do as usually tacomas are only a grand or two in difference between trade and private party anyways and if its in decent shape they will certifiy it and break even, small profit made, and would rather push the new vehicle for numbers, holdback, etc. even if they lose a little on your trade. I've still managed to get 12% off MSRP from the new truck with a high trade offer, but you have to play the game between dealers because they will a) either offer you larger discount or b) give you more trade, etc. But for reference my last deal, was 12% off MSRP on my new truck ($39.2k / $44.8k MSRP), $35k for my 2019 with a $32.5k trade in value and $35k private party value, I used only the $500 military rebate and 2.9% @ 60 months with TFS dea, dealer fee was capped per my state and didnt buy any extra sh*t, etc. But that deal took alot of work to put together. Trades always suck because its another variable in the matter and you never know. Given the current circumstances I would take that deal because I doubt you'll get that private party in the current market, even if they are offering you less on the new truck, though I would argue off those dealer ad ons.

Might consider going the Costco route to not get the extra junk. I don't mind waiting a month or two for the car. I have been paying attention to this thread for months. Now that I'm ready to buy, supply is way low. All that research for nothing. DOH!

Yup, exactly what I thought about it. But, ha ha, their Jedi mind tricks worked. Either way, I’m good with it.

And the funny thing is, i’ve been somewhat humbled because on the 2016 thread, I’m pretty sure I got one of the, if not the best deal on the whole thread. 15.2%, $2500 over kbb, last minute, end of the month, they said come over and we’ll give you an SR5 for the price I was going to pay for an SR. But this time at an attempt as a sales tactic, when I brought this up in addition to a stupid good deal I negotiated for my father-in-law on his RAV4, it was like a politician pivoting. They just wouldn’t even acknowledge it. Especially at the dealer I got it from. They were over $3000 away from my final price this time and weren’t interested in even talking about it.
Oh well, I’m good. Due to 4 Tacomas in row, I drive a $40,000 truck for a stupid little $200 payment without ever having put money down. Wouldn’t be happening if I was driving a Chevy or a Ford

Started small with mods. Wheels, Tires and Lift soon
Bought mine 2 weeks ago and it started at $39,103.00.
I got a $2,577.00 dealer markdown and then a $1,7750.00 Toyota incentive markdown.
So in the end I payed $34,776.00 for my 2020 TRD Off Road Silver Sky Metallic Taco.

EDIT: I did do everything online and got my offer before I went in as well.

If you don’t feel like taking a couple weeks to squeeze out an extra couple thousand then it’s the way to go. Some people honestly don’t have the time to do everything that is discussed on this thread.
