Mine was built on 6/26, talking to the dealer is seemed liked most tacomas coming off the line are already sold.

Mine was built yesterday, July 2nd.

Of course, I haven't actually seen it yet. Negotiated the price in late May, which seems to have been a good decision based on recent posts here.

    Now for a delivery date.

I ordered back just before Covid really kicked in, I think it was late March or early April. Anyway my build date got pushed back a few times, but it is supposed to be on July 6 now.

There seems to be a shortage of TRD 4X4 tacoma trucks. I went to the website where I bought mine and there are none to be had there and when I went to the toyota configuration site I found out you can't buy a 2020 voo doo blue but after picking the options I have and picking a differant exterior color I see it cost just over 40k and when I bought mine it was 5k cheaper than now on msrp so glad I got mine when dealers were full on lot stock cause looks like the deals are gone for now

I don’t know what the build date was but I put my deposit down and made the “order” on April 27. I know that it was definitely built after the Covid shutdown. It came into Port in Jacksonville on June 29. I’m picking it up Monday. I guess it’s a little extra delayed because of the holiday, etc.

I don't think MSRP changes in the span of a few months. Whatever deal you got, you got but it wasn't because the MSRP changed.

All I can say is that when you build it online its costing you more. Try and locate yourself a dealer that has Tacoma TRD 4x4 on there lot. And you probably going to find that they are harder to find. And your only option when they dont have them is to order 1 and it will need to be built unless they have a large quantity of them being made just to fill the void. Some on here were saying all the 1's that are arriving at the dealerships are already sold when they come in

That's because they are being sold. It doesn't change the MSRP, it changes whether or not you can get a better deal than MSRP.

Now is definitely not the best time of the year to get a good deal.when the dealer had full lot and people dropped off like flies when covid-19 hit car sales took a big hit that's when best deals were to be made. Now probably have to wait for year end clearance

It's not a big deal, just means some will scoop year end deals. The rest of us will probably just wait for MY2021

    I don't....I don't know what that is.

It's reading like you're seeking some type of acknowledgement that you got a great deal and timed everything just right, so here it is. Congratulations, I'm happy you got your dream truck. Everyone willing to work towards theirs and be patient vs just running out and buying something to buy something will get theirs as well.

    Hello All,

I’m still relatively new to TacoWorld and I stumbled across this post.
I bought my 2020 Tacoma in May. It’s a 4x4 Off-road, Premium Package, Manual Transmission in Cement Gray. It was during the 0% APR financing Toyota was offering. I paid 38.9k before TTL. Granted I’m in Southern California so taxes are quite high sadly. It was also my very first time purchasing a car, and I went alone (I’m 27), so I don’t feel like I got too taken advantage of.

I will say that the stock for certain TRD trim’s was very limited in my search. I drove like 200 miles to buy it, and talking to different dealers it seemed like production had slowed because of COVID-19.

I hope this was helpful, and if you have any questions I’m happy to answer!

Cheers and Happy 4th of July

Have fun with it, fly to another state to get one, then drive it back home. The road trip in your brand new truck will be sweet.

    What happened in this thread...

The MSRP from Toyota hasn't changed. If you are seeing something different on the build tool online, then you configured something differently than before. Prices on dealer lots are a different thing, along with what you can negotiate, but MSRP is set by Toyota and fixed for the year.

    Right.

Huh? Assuming this is tongue in cheek... (but sometimes I'm not sure on TW)

Yep, as many people have said. Especially if you live in one of the areas where they don't seem to negotiate much (or even jack up the price) like the west coast or SE it seems.

That feels like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away at this point.

Sounds nice, but depending on options the original MSRP can swing wildly by thousands of dollars. What all was on it?

All very fair points and not unreasonable. It is all water under the bridge now, of course. We are where we are.

I don't think there were massive discounts at the start of the pandemic ... at least from what we have seen here ... And, of course, that is a small sample size. There were a few people here who did hit that number but even at the onset of the pandemic it was the exception rather than the rule. I came in at something like 13.5% off and felt I did the best that I could. @TacoBuffet has a theory -- which I think has been proven out -- that it is generally impossible to get more than 15% off. It does happen. but not often. It does seem like some markets are more flexible than others. In my case, the availability was rather limited at the start of the pandemic and that has gotten worse. Believe me I wish I was able to get 15% off but just couldn't do it -- and I was willing to travel far to make that happen. In any case, I am happy with it. if I recall most dealership at the time were pretty content to sit on inventory because as you correctly point out Toyota knows the Tacoma is popular and that they will sell. I must admit that as a casual observer of the auto industry I was surprised that dealers were willing to sit on inventory -- I guess their carrying costs were really low?

Agree with you entirely on the 0% -- although I would be curious to know how many people took that. In my case, the rebate was the better option. That did help move some units but by that time available supply was low and from what I saw -- again, limited observation -- lack of product availability keep pricing and discounts fairly stable.

I think we are in agreement ... my only point is that the discounts were not as large as one would have thought -- certainly compared to other manufacturers.

I also agree with you you won't see anything close to 15% to 18% off for a very long time -- with production low and people snapping up every available Tacoma. I wish that were not the case but I think Toyota managed the whole perfectly.

Here's to hoping everyone gets the truck of their dreams.
