Could you please provide the MSRP, negotiated price, money factor, residual, monthly payment and allotted mileage so we can see how good of a deal was going in April.

Do a search of this thread for @TacoBuffet ’s posts he does a great job of outlining deals on his arsenal of Tacoma’s he’s bought. But pre limited availability hitting 12ish percent off MSRP before rebate was Great. 15% off MSRP with the rebate was what I was shooting for when all this went down.

I had a few posts that outlined my search just a touch after Covid hit to pulling the trigger about a week after I noticed dealers start to pull back on their good deals. I ended up snatching a barely used 2019 before used prices went through the roof as well and when trade-in prices were still really good . which may be the better option for some.

Agree 100%. I can go back and confirm my numbers but I used @TacoBuffet as a guide and got 13.5% off of a TRD OR (even though I wanted an SR5). That was early April. I was happy with the deal and have no complaints. I had almost locked down a used, low mileage 2019 but the gap wasn't that big so I went with the new 2020. I've said it before but I also thing used prices will really hold their value because you are going to have a lot of late 2019 and 2020s with low mileage due to people not driving as much.

This is not going to help either:

"It is well known that car sales fell and would not level off in a long time, but the Tacoma’s biggest competitors lagged far behind. The Ford Ranger sold 25,008 trucks during the second quarter of the year, the Chevrolet Colorado fell to 19,843 sales, and Toyota sold 51,062 Tacomas, 19.8% less than in the second quarter of 2019. Toyota sold more than double the Ford Ranger despite the fact that it is increasing its sales dramatically and the Tacoma lost sales due to the pandemic. Even if the sales of the two trucks were put together, they couldn’t reach the Tacoma numbers."

Not really understanding how @TacoBuffet's deals are relevant to the deal @EZBZ got. Everyone gets different deals depending on different factors. If someone claims they got the best lease terms ever offered on Tacoma's, it would be nice to see their specific numbers.

Finally picking mine up tomorrow or Friday. Haha, What do you mean pick it up and then immediately put it up for sale? Was thinking I was making out really well at $27,000 on my trade-in. (2016 sr5 4x4) Kelley blue book trade-in is now 27,300. Was $23,000 when I put down the deposit.

All fair points but a little background might help. @TacoBuffet has bought a lot of Tacomas over the years (as for me, I have only bought two and they were decades apart). He also has friends or relatives that work at a dealer, if I remember correctly. I will defer to him on his experience and expertise.

The relevance is that @TacoBuffet has a theory -- the idea that given the financial models and pricing structures -- 15% off MSRP is the benchmark for deals on Tacomas. There are rare times when the percentage is higher than that but that is really the holy grail for discounts off MSRP. It is a theory, of course, but one that we have seen play out over and over in many deals as documented here. You are right that everyone's deal is different -- packages, taxes, etc. -- but as a group we can all share data and judge deals by how close they are to that number. Some will be more (but we think that is rare) and some will be less but that is the goal to shoot for. I mentioned this to my dealer and they smiled during the negotiations and said that was very reasonable -- even in a pandemic. They got me to 13.5% off list but we worked on some extras to sweeten the deal.

Hope that helps ... it is just a benchmark to check if you are getting a good deal and also to monitor what's going on in the market. Of course, the pandemic has changed everything but that is at least the theory ...

Edit: I should also add this is a good way for us to compare deals and discounts across a wide range of sales because you calculate discount off MSRP without including things that vary widely, such as sales taxes, etc.

    Is this @TacoBuffet?

Haha "has a theory" "given the financial models and pricing structures" you make him out like some kind of wizard. He's just a guy who has bought many Tacos and observed people posting in this thread.

Not sure what "15% off MSRP is the benchmark for deals on Tacomas" mean either. Everyone is different based on region, scarcity, and negotiating skills. The average seems to be more like 10-12% off MSRP and 15+% is a "very good deal". There's not much more to it than that, from what I've seen and I've been on this thread basically since it started. But as always, YMMV.

Ya no theory, just a sh*t ton of Tacomas over the years, all different regions, different dealer relationships and of course TW observation. But as we've discussed over and over and over again, and see usually as the norm, 10-12% off is a good deal, 15% off is a very good deal, of course its all variable with rebates, regions, etc. But anything above 15% off MSRP is usually an outlier or has some other facet to it (trade, finance rate, add ons, etc.).

call him a wizard, financial guru, Tacoma buying magician, or a regular joe, but his posts, theories, and knowledge he shared gave me a huge leg up in knowing where to start a reasonable negotiation and how to put two dealers to work to get you a deal. I’ll continue to reference him and give him credit for at least putting together the research and simplifying it in a way that saved me lots of money and gave me piece of mind that the deal I chose was wise for what these trucks can be had for :)

Thanks for your long winded explanations, but I was simply looking for the numbers from @EZBZ. I wasn't trying to have a pissing contest and compare his numbers to anything @TacoBuffet or anyone was able to get. Considering @EZBZ did a lease deal and @TacoBuffet does purchases, they are different. The negotiated price is the only thing similar between a lease and purchase. The MF and residual matter just as much in a lease as the negotiated price.

Ya not sure where it all went off track, clearly different and alot of other variables when leasing, and not my area of expertise.
