Apparently you haven't noticed that if someone inquires about anything other than an OR....the response is always get an OR. Throwing out options to a potential Tacoma buyer, especially one looking at a 4x2, who may not familiar with the trim levels isn't odd. This is the "What are you paying for 2020 Tacomas thread", not the "I already know what I want thread".

Actually, I do the opposite. I had a 2005 SR5. I wanted a 2020 SR5 but just couldn't fine one, unfortunately. This was pre-pandemic. The one dealer I was working with had an SR% but was such a bummer that I walked. I ended up getting a 2020 TRD OR for not much more but admit it has a lot of features that I don't really need. For all of the stuff I want to do with the truck (mostly on the road, off road on some pretty rocky / muddy trails) the SR5 would have more than met my needs. There were some good folks on this forum -- with a lot of experience who agreed. Don't get me wrong -- happy with the TRD OR but would have been just fine in the SR5.

In my opinion (granted, I am no expert) the SR5 is the sweet spot between cost and capability in the Tacoma line up. But that's just me. So I would advise people looking at the TRD OR to seriously go the opposite direction and consider the SR5. Of course, if you are going PRO that is a bigger step backwards so that may not be as good a comparison.

    Just my thoughts ...

I bought an SR5 about a month ago. I totally love the truck. I haven't been off road in it yet but I'm sure it will be fine for me and what I do. It had all the things I had to have and then a few more. There are a few things I would have liked but decided I could live life without, like heated seats because I didn't want to pay for the much higher trim and option package to get it along with many more things I didn't want.
AverageJp was definitely in on some discussion about my purchase experience. Him and several told me to get it. I was also told to get a basic OR if I could get one by others too. Both are good options.

I’m in New England: 2020 Trd Sport, Cement, Manual 38000 with rebate, seemingly includes all upgrades. Leather/heated seats, Tech Package, Mats, Tonneau, Sliders, Moon roof, Probably forgetting a few things. They wouldn’t budge an inch, and was their first offer. Dealer 5 miles away, same truck listed at 44k before rebate.

Sticker was 44k, which matches up to basically online configuration. Was just weird it was their first quote to me. When I tried getting another 1000k, she was pretty annoyed :). Maybe just end of the month quotas? I am financing through local credit union, unless Toyota wants to beat their rate. Only catch was truck is incoming, build is scheduled to finish this week and they said fingers crossed it will get To them by mid but no later than late sept, but plus side is it was exact truck I wanted. Plus a few extras.

I had just sent emails to all dealers in my area with the truck i was looking for, a few offered to put it on order (3 months wait!) and she just happened to have that one coming in I guess. Tbh, I don’t have much of a clue, first new car I have ever purchased (or had a bank purcchase),,,,,and sadly I am 41, I have been through so many used beaters, this will be quite the change. I am upgrading from a 2000 Buick Century!! Lol.

Dude I'm 46 and just bought my first brand new vehicle a month ago. I've had used vehicles from beaters to nicer pre owned ones like the Jeep I owned for 11 years, that was originally financed.
Brand new is a nice feeling. Congratulations

The dealer CostCo referred me to in San Diego wouldn't return my phone calls or emails. It was weird. I am going to wait until inventory starts to increase. I have been looking for a Off Road, DCLB with the TRD Premium Package. When they show up on Toyota's local inventory report, they aren't listed for more than a day or 2 before gone.

    The righteous side of hell
So i called a dealership very close to my home. My family has bought a few toyotas from them in the past. I figured let me start close first. Long story short, I enquired about making an order on a 21 model. One guy had another guy call me. The other guy basically sounded clueless. He said "he has no idea how to do so, due to the fact their system is only showing them info for 2020 models. He then told me he was going to ask one of his supervisors and give me a call back.

Needless to say, he didn't sound very reassuring.

Doesn't sound like it was the right time to buy for you. But since you did, at least enjoy it.

Yeah I’m going to enjoy it for sure. They only had two TRD Off Roads which they had just got that day. Both sold in less than 24hrs from arriving to the dealership.

People are out to get these Tacos!
