This is the truck and deal I'm looking for unsuccessfully! Mind me asking what dealer? Or if you'd prefer not say at least what state/region? I'm in central NC.

Hey guys. I have never had a new vehicle or slightly used vehicle. I have only had two vehicles in my lifetime and my current truck is a 2005 Silverado that is just falling apart. I have tried holding onto it as long as I can to save up a down payment so my monthly payment isn't so bad. I currently have $15k for a down payment and my current truck is paid off. I am thinking about selling the truck privately and adding what little I get from the sale (truck runs like a dream but looks like a POS) to my down payment. I am looking at either a TRD Sport or OR in cement gray or MGM. 2019 or 2020. I am kind of leaning toward the 2020 due to the power seating but honestly either a 19 or 20 will feel like a damn space ship compared to what I have been driving.

How should I go about this? I read somewhere where you can get an interest rate through your bank before going to dealer. If you were in my position how would you handle this situation? You guys seem to be very knowledgeable on dealerships which I am not AT ALL.

You can get more money selling your truck on the private market, but in my opinion the tax savings of trading one in and the ease of doing so often offset difference in money. I would highly suggest going new, I just bought one for $3 to $4k more than the used 2019 ones were going for on CL.

How I shop for vehicles is I go to one dealer, test drive, haggle, and get their best quote and then leave. From there I contact 2 sales reps with 2 other dealers who have the same vehicle and send them the quote. I refuse to go in again until we get to a price I find suitable (check out truecar.com). They really want to get you on the emotional side, so resist.

Just an FYI, destination fees are a joke, don't pay it. Tell them the add-ons (unless you want them) don't add value and you don't want to pay for them (they won't pull them) fees should just be your title and registration, no more. Last but not least, additional insurance plans are not needed. You got this!

Lot of good info on here about buying, two things to consider, your credit rating can make a big difference in payment and Get a random vin number off internet and get an insurance quote if you only have liability now. If your credit is decent and you can live with a 19 some regions have 0 percent interest on the leftovers,

You have a good down payment and since you truck is old, the dealer will probably give you a better deal if you just keep that truck out of the equation. In the SE they have 0.9%/60mo month finance specials on both the 2019 and 2020s. I think you would need a credit score of 720 to 740 to be eligible.

Cobb County Toyota in Northern Ga is pretty good about giving online quotes and they don't have any dealer fees.

That’s a sweet $5,706 discount off MSRP. Excellent negotiating, that’s slightly over 14% off the window sticker MSRP.

You reference truecar.com, are you meaning to find a price for truck I want and go off of that price when I got to dealership?

    Thanks for this advice!!!

True car is a good way to see what they're being sold for in your area. Shoot for the excellent price range and don't settle unless you're within $500 or so of that price. Fyi het price is before tax title and registration. But keep in mind to not pay for anything more than the truck, tax, title and registration. (Unless you want tech package, leather seats, moon roof etc) any time they try to add the addons on your bill, just keep saying " I don't see them adding xxx in value because I can get it done or purchase that for much less on the private market"

Gave you some screenshots of the going prices here in PHX. Probably mildly different in your area.

That is very similar to my market average here: $34,486

The only additional thing I think I may get is the tech package. Is the tech even worth it on these new 2020's? It seems they come stock with some pretty good additions when it comes to TRD trim. Again, anything is better than what I am currently driving lol.

I bought my 2020 SW Pro for 48,465 plus $4k Tax tag title. And that's because I had a friends and family connection and they only gave me an $800 discount. So I think you are pretty close. According to TrueCar, I paid below market value. So its up to you, I would have loved to have gotten the Army green. They had one in manual and "sold" for $53k here in Miami.

Bided my time and pulled the trigger on new years eve at 5pm. Got a 2019 TRD Offroad/6MT/Premium/Tech Package MSRP $40,460 for $33,226.....was worth not getting power seats and apple car play.

Bullshit. No way in hell you got 18% off MSRP. No dealer in the country is going to knock 7200 off unless the dealer owner is your dad.
