^^^^ If you have a trade-in they are going to hose you. Be prepared to walk out the dealership door.

No trade in, straight offer. I’ve dealt with them before, they’re good straight forward people. They aren’t trying to hose anyone in any way, they’re transparent about the purchase. They’re a very successful dealer and are able to offer low prices because they move so much inventory.

They may be good people, but I’m all about averages. The average dealership isn’t full of completely good people and the discount you’re saying is MUCH higher than the average discount here. Like I said, get it in writing. Or buy the dang thing.

Hi everyone. First post. Long time lurker. I’ve been price shopping for a mgm Tacoma 4x4 OR with tech and LED headlights. Includes mudguards, wheel locks, spare tire lock and all weather floor liner/door sill protect. My best deal so far is on this truck. MSRP of $39872 for $34438 before TTL with 1.9 financing. Think I can get them to throw in bed mat and tint. Seems like a good deal to me. Any input?

That’s a really good deal, especially since you were able to get a 1.9% rate as well. You can always try to get them to throw those things in, it never hurts

Really, if you are financing the truck, the difference in your monthly payment would be very small if you are talking about a $500 discount or not. Now paying cash......that's another ball game. I think most guys should zero in on what the monthly payment would be and not so much on the out the door total cost. Just another way of looking at it. Try to get the lowest interest rate.

Sorry I didn't see all the replies before I posted this. :frusty:

I’d take it, you can ask for the add on but the mat is only a hundred or so, no idea cost of tint, already on mine not listed on any papers

Unfortunately more dealers than ever are quoting prices that aren’t real when you actually go to buy it. Rebates no one qualifies for, mandatory dealer installed nonsense, and even a $1098 “handling fee” added at the last minute are just a few of the scams I’ve encountered in my last 2 years of trying to buy a truck. Buying a new vehicle was actually easier before the Internet. I’ve purchased 19 new cars in the last 25 years and it’s worse than ever. I finally got my Tacoma but the place tried to charge $598 for mandatory paint shield and “Nitrogen Tire Fill”. I told them if they honored their agreed upon price I’d take it home, but a penny more and I’m walking. I only gave them a chance since the Tacoma they had is extremely hard to find, almost impossible. They agreed to drop the scam and I bought it right there. I’ve walked away from more dealers than I can count.

2020 TRD Pro paid MSRP. Dealer wanted more because of special accessories/add-ons (old ploy by the dealer to make more money). Basically told them MSRP or I am walking. They came back that the stuff was already on the truck, and countered that at MSRP they were still making money. Finally got it at MSRP with black tailgate lettering and a clear bra.

Picked up a 2020 TRD OR Manual DCSB 4x4 in MGM late last night. Paid $32,352 including all dealer fees (but not taxes, my trade in took care of that). MSRP on the truck was $36,983.

Unfortunately my interest rate on the loan is 4.29%. Ill refinance it after a year or so. Or try to pay it off sooner rather than later.

    How'd I do?

Has anyone asked the salesman what they paid for the Tacoma? I did that on my new Durango (2001) and he showed me. They made $500+ profit after we bargained . Hey, they have to make some profit. But they also made $$$ on the loan and trade-in. I wonder if that would work at Toyota. Hummmmm

Dealer would love you as a customer "so what are you looking for payment wise?" meanwhile they go 74 months instead of 72 or add in some fees, mess with trade, etc. and pad in profit. OTD is garbage for comparison, but so is shopping by payment. You gotta look at the whole picture which is why price before TTL, fees and trade is what it all boils down to. Most buyers with a 700 or better will qualify for prime rates unless they just let the dealer hose them or are oblivious, think TFS anything above a 690 qualifies for Tier 1.

I've bought 6 3rd gens all different regions, but similar specs, claimed "invoice" or what the dealer paid has always been different. They can make it seem like they are losing money so you feel all tingly and warm inside, its just a number on paper.

Chicago region, where have you gone? I've dealt with Elgin (my least favorite), Western, Romeoville, Naperville and Westmont. So far naperville has been the most transparent.

Def a ram job at that price. One dealer I dealt with was going to give me a 4x4 SR5 for the price of RWD but I didn't need it and would rather try to squeeze out a little more MPG from a 2wd.

Yep, it's all about luring you into the showroom where they can deploy an endless arsenal of shady tactics. I maintain that the vehicle buying experience is probably the very worst purchasing experience one can go thru. I've been thru the process 16 times over 30 years and I hate it more and more each time.
