What are you paying for a gallon?

No ethanol = better fuel economy.

Ethanol has a raw octane rating of around 118, but it also only has 75% of the BTU content of gasoline.
Ethanol is also stoich at around 9.5:1, gasoline is stoich at 14.7:1

Theoretically, if you were getting 14.7mpg on gasoline, the same efficiency engine running 100% ethanol would get only 9.5mpg.

What offsets that to a degree is that in a purely ethanol system, compression and timing can be run higher because:
A) - Higher octane
B) - Richer mixture reduces cylinder temperatures
C) - Ethanol burns cooler

There is a reason dragsters and funny cars don't run gasoline... they run either alcohol (ethanol/methanol) or nitromethane.
So you CAN get more power out of alcohol than you get from gasoline... but it takes a LOT more fuel to do it.

 

Right. What he said. I pay more for 91 but I get more mpg as well. Not quite enough to pay for the extra cost, but my per-mile price is only about 0.6 cents per mile more to run 91, which I will gladly pay to run non-ethanol gas, which we can only get in premium around here.

 

just seen it earlier today and it's @ $4.12 a gallon for 87

 

Saw it dropping a lot lately. Had been $4.29 for several weeks... and today I saw ARCO stations with $4.15 advertised... North San Diego County, Calif.

 

4.58 for regular unleaded in Honolulu.

 

4.25 for regular Orange County, CA

 

Paid $4.47 in Chicago yesterday.

 

$3.89 for the last few weeks, up from $3.79.

 

Got that out on Catalina too. It actually made Drudge.

Fuel has to be barged in, but there are probably less than 50 vehicles on the island. Most people that live there have golf carts.

 

$4.12 yesterday, 87 octane, Moshen station on Mission Ave, near the Oceanside Airport... San Diego's north county, near Camp Pendleton Marine Base.

Where are you finding such cheap gas?
I work in Burbank and live in Chino... just paid $4.31 Sunday in Chino and Burbank prices aren't any better.

Granted, that's Chevron... I won't run that Arco or Sam's/Costco shit.

3.98 yesterday. Cheapest in town I think. In Henrietta NY, south of Rochester.

 

I paid $0.00 per gallon Friday when I filled up.

Been paying that to fill up for almost 4 months in a row.
