    Just a note:
Fuel would be even less expensive if it wasn't for the ethanol.

    The beauty is...
the tax payers subsidize the ethanol industry...the vehicles cost more to build (I'm sure that's passed on to the consumer)...and the MPG's are less...
    It's a win-win for everybody.

Had another graduate student in my "Environmental Safety" course give a presentation on the negatives to ethanol. I loved it, and wholeheartedly agree it sucks.

The problem with Ethanol is that the technology to produce it hasn't hit the level they thought it would by this point. Basically right now if you convert wheat/corn/whatever into ethanol you are only converting the simple sugars and starches in the biomass to fuel. That's only a part of the plant, and not even the largest percent of available energy. If, as was speculated to occur but hasn't happened yet, someone found a very efficient way to converter large amounts of the structural polysaccrides in the plant into sugars the story on Ethanol's value to us would be different.

Basically it's a classic case of the cart pulling the horse, and the horse is actually just a bag filled with poop instead of the Clydesdale it was supposed to be when it grew up.

Oh, and I'm paying $2.27/gallon once you do the CAD to USD conversion, which is not so bad.

Hey nobody has talked about the 5 or $6,000,000,000 the US gov (read as Obama) has spent on "developing" Ethanol from cellulose with no commercial vol to date.

Cellulose is a polysaccride, so yes it has been mentioned and explained.

I don't speak French either. Do you speak Spanish? Because last time I checked there were more native Spanish speakers in the USA than Francophones in Canada. :p
