I got this response from a local dealer:

Currently we are taking the highest bids on Tacoma's because of the demand, due to that most of them are selling before they get here over MSRP.

Woah! Sucks but can't say I'm surprised. That said, I'd remember that dealer & avoid them going forward.

I paid the sticker price of 40,038.00 for my 2021 Double Cab TRD Sport. I got almost 21K for my trade which was a 2014 Regular cab 2.7 manual with 70,000 miles. It was just unloaded off the car carrier and I said, "I'll take that one".

So how is KBB pricing cars during this shortage? Accurate for what you can expect to get or are they still at pre-hike numbers? I bought my truck and traded in my 4R in ‘20 and the dealership used KBB’s dealer pricing tool for their offer - wonder if they’re on the dealers side still.

Everything is in flux so there’s probably no one-size-fits-all but generally I look to get Kelley blue book private party as opposed to the trade in value when I trade in at the dealer. Dealers make out like bandits when they give you kbb trade in value. Carvana numbers seem to support this or more. But then you have to take him to count the tax credit in your state.

I'm not 100% if I'll do private sale or trade in when my '21 arrives so I've been monitoring KBB, Carvana, Edmunds, Vroom, etc over the last two months. I put in what I thought the mileage would be if the new one showed up early & what I thought I might have if it showed up later than expected (89 & 95k). For those mileages I saw ~1k increase on 6/1 from 4/29. Today the #s were up ~$600 over 6/1. Not saying the bubble has burst but I'd guess the resell prices have peaked--purely based on my truck's numbers.

I bought a LR TRD PRO today from a Dodge dealership. It had 9000 miles on it. I bought it for $48500. I've been looking everywhere for PRO's or AG TRD ORD and they sell before they even get to the dealership. This truck showed up in my town and I traded in my 2018 TRD ORD and got $33,000 for it. I was hoping for more because of the crazy market right now. I finally have a truck that has everything I want.

I believe KBB has (or had) a tool that showed dealers what cars were averaging at auction and gave a fair trade-in offer. The one or two times I’ve seen it, it’s been better than “Trade in Value” fwiw. That, plus tax benefits, plus dealers being desperate- I’d actually consider trading in again.

Just went through searching for a Double Cab TRD Off Road. Some of the dealerships are marking up 5000 over MSRP and I was told that some are 10000 over.

We found a dealer who is only listing at MSRP.
    Base price was 38500.
Ours has the basic tech package and a few options so end price was a little over 40,000.

Yea, from back when I was trading in my 2016, I get updates from Kelley blue book every time there’s a significant change in price. For the first time in a while The value went down yesterday. Like you’re saying, super limited and specific data point but it does point in the same direction.

When I reserved a Bronco the price was based msrp and could not go above it. But they mentioned anything on the lot would have a mark up.

I bought my 2021 TRD Sport in Johnstown PA (About 60 miles from where I live) back in February 2021. It has the LED package, bed light, rubber floor mats and door sill protectors. I paid $33,000. ($3,00 below sticker) I'm feeling like I got it just in time and avoided the price hikes. Or maybe I just got lucky.
