I stand corrected, it was not a special order, it was one they were allocated. Right now it's take what you can get. There is a lot of stuff I don't care for on my msrp but Im just happy to get a truck. Besides You could pay almost this much for a 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 right now, prices on these trucks are crazy. As an example, I just sold my 2021 4runner to vroom that was 3 months old for more than what I paid for on the MSRP.

I was looking around for someone else, for an in stock 2022 Off Road, and ran across a nice unicorn. Bayside Toyota in Port Frederick, MD, has a 2022 green Sport 4 x 4 with tech package, LED headlights, running boards and a 6 SPEED MANUAL, for under $40k. I bought my last new one there and was well worth my 4 hour drive. They beat every local dealer price.

You don’t have to pay for anything added by the dealership that isn’t on the window sticker.. go to the dealership late in the day caffeinated with a full belly. If you go early, the will drag the process out. Find your state laws on min-max delivery fees as well. The dealerships are looking for suckers every second.

Well they aren’t going to force you to pay dealer add ons, but they also don’t have to sell you the truck. This is a seller’s market, we have little leverage, and we are looking for very specific trucks. If you turn down the allocation they will sell it in 1 minute. The dealers adjusting market value around me didn’t get my business, but all the trucks that have come to them the last two months are sold. They know you can’t just walk down the road and get a deal somewhere else.

You can still negotiate a bit - I got free ceramic tint, weather techs, and the dealer pack cut from 2k to 619.

But after speaking to ~13 dealers across two states, I just don’t think the strategy you described works anymore. Respectfully speaking

Tough times. I told them not to even take the plastic off of anything when I bought mine last year. They tried to mark it up with a dealer exclusive, but I had signed a paper With/for a vin#, $500 down, and msrp. I guess I negotiated a pre deal? Got lucky for sure.. my local Toyota is no longer taking preorder down payments, which tells me it’s going to be awhile before inventory is anywhere near normal. I’m sure they are shifting their focus/resources more towards Camry and Corolla.

I don't know the part numbers, sorry. The LED option is $485, it gives you LED headlights, and LED fogs. It makes the truck look hella better, and I'm sure the lights are more focused as well. I'm fairly certain they can install them after the fact, but get a price quote first.

LED illumination is different than LED headlights and fogs, I have those.
Illumination looks to be port installed puddle lights and footwell lights.

And it isn't available in all regions, fyi. But you can buy the part from dealers in regions that it is an option for ~$150? (Don't remember what I paid.)

Looks like trucks come prewired for them.
I think I saw empty plugs in the frame when I put up my running boards.

Definitely not prewired. If you follow the port's install locations, you're drilling through the pinch weld on the rocker panel.

*Edit: there is thread on here that someone has done a nice job of detailing the install. I'll see if I can't find it.

Yeah, its a commitment to be sure! The whole "first cut is the deepest" rings true. Particularly when it is in an area exposed to all the road debris. That said, get a good metal bit, tape both sides, clean the edges and silicone it and you really should be ok. Always something you can pull every so often and replace the silicone.

I was neck deep in a bed build when it got cold (and they started sanding & salting) so have yet to install mine. At this point I'll wait until the Spring when I can give the belly a proper bath first.

At my dealer for state inspection. Saw a 2022 Tundra at MSRP (about $60k) plus "Market Adjustment" (and I use the term loosely) $12,500!!! That's right $72k!!!! Holy sh-t, Batman!!! Biggest surprise to me was it was listed as "sold."

$72K for a Tundra????? No way. That's Land Cruiser territory, if I drop that kind of money.

Might have been on this thread or another one but a few months back someone mentioned a salesman said that the primary reason for the high mark ups wasn't so much as to make that extra profit as to discourage folks from walking in a buying essentially the only one they have in stock. The one on the lot gets someone in the door that might not otherwise and then they can sell them a future allotment. That said, if someone offers to pay MSRP + mark up they sure aren't likely to say no.

That said, that is obviously "my buddy's ex's half brother from her aunt said" level but seems fitting, imo.

40k for a giant hunk of moving metal at the mercy of every female driver, iPhone junky and road rock between you and your destination. I’ll never buy a new vehicle. :(

$400 delivery is cheap! But they made up their profit on the next line. That said, essentially what I paid for my DCLB but alas, I have no manual :(
