For the "custom order", I was also working with MST as they had the best price. Additionally, they can provide some installs in-house like heated seats without a premium package, etc.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
I wanted to buy another Tacoma and the prices are high now and the selection is low.

This will be my 13th Toyota truck and and I have never seen it this bad.

I will wait for middle of winter on a cold night, just before closing, at the end of the month/quarter, and see what happens.

Same. I am actually thinking about buying it on Dec 31, 2020 to see if any sales guy would want to close the deal for 2020.

Had my buddy save a 2021 Cement OR for me in August. I ordered a Tesla Model Y on 9/17 that was scheduled to be built in December. Just got a text this morning that its going to be ready on 9/30. I can't believe the Tesla is gonna show up before the Tacoma

I’ve done this before, the problem is everyone else now has the same idea. The dealerships are packed from December 1 through the end of the year. They’re so busy that if you don't take the deal, the next person will.

    I’m looking at a Y to replace my S.
The funny thing is I still love driving the Tacoma more than the Tesla.

I wonder if Toyota is going to fill dealer lots by March.

Read it. Disagree. It’s fine for the most part but someone getting $3k less on their trade than its worth makes whatever deal they got not that good. OP himself got kbb private party vs kbb trade in value for his trades. Adds $2k in value to his deal. Or if they are including $2k of nitrogen tire type dealer add ons in the MSRP. Most other vehicle forums like the f150 and Honda Accord price paying threads use a format similar to the template which is where I got it from. It’s all good. I’m over it.

The only number that matters to me is the sales price before TTL. This gives me an idea if people are paying +/- MSRP.

Many people do not negotiate that number before trade, financing, etc. which makes it impossible to compare apples to apples.

I hear ya and agree. Sales price before TTL is all that matters as long as it’s not being affected by other factors.
Do you not agree that as I said before the sales price before TTL Will change if you agree to take less on the trade allowance? When I just bought mine, I got $500 over Kelley blue book private party value for my 2016. The dealer straight up told me that if I wanted to take less for my trade he would give me more of a discount off MSRP. He said it all comes out in the wash for them.

Of course there are TONS of variables that go into a deal that may affect one number or another. But for a simple comparison all that really needs to be known is MSRP and discounted price prior to everything else.
Your template is great and all but its hard enough to get people to not use OTD numbers let alone discuss every little factor into their deal, your template fails to address other variables that come into account too, Ive seen finance managers adjust deal prices based on APR, extended warranties, etc. So for simplicity, MSRP and price prior to everything else makes the most sense, and if people want to expand on that or ask how someone got such a great discount so be it.

Yeah, I used to agree with this but by the end of the 2020 thread people were using the template pretty consistently. True, warranty, and apr can factor in but these are usually negotiated in the finance office. The selling price is usually agreed-upon before going into the finance office. I purposely left off those things to pare it down and make it simpler. At least you understand that the items on The template make a difference in the quality of the deal. It’s comical to me when people try to say that the trade allowance doesn’t have any bearing on the deal. I just don’t get why anyone is against it being an option. If someone uses it then great we have more accurate data. If they don’t then we’re in the same position we would have been in otherwise. It’s not going to dissuade someone from posting their basic numbers. On the Honda Accord website they delete your post if you don’t put all that information. That doesn’t make sense to me. Oh well, I’m out. Be back in 4-5 years when it’s time for a new one.

Not necessarily, I've seen finance managers in order to secure a loan or make the deal better on their end will go back to the sales manager and tweak the price, all part of the shell game. Like I said your template is great, but we can't even get people to not talk OTD let alone all those other factors, some may not even have any idea why they matter and just signed some paperwork thinking they got a deal. From a standpoint of knowing if you are getting a decent price off MSRP, MSRP vs. price discounted is the simplest and most meaningful, i.e. 10% off MSRP, etc. gives people something to shoot for prior to negotiating trade, etc. And honestly you should be negotiating this prior to anything else, because as you alluded to the numbers can be adjusted in each area and dealers do this to their advantage. Point of this thread is to take out all those variables and give everyone a basis for discount off MSRP prior to all the other stuff to aim for. Of course everyone is gonna have other variables at play.
