It used to be easier. I want to say Edmunds.com used to publish them but I checked the other day and they don't anymore. They even had dealer invoice price on different upgrade packages.

The only place I was able to find invoice price recently was on the Costco auto pricing program. So you ahve to be a costco member, you put in the model you want (it only allows the base package, no add-ons), you enter in your membership number and it gives you a certificate to use at a participating dealer (they give you one local dealer). On that same page they show you the base MSRP and the Dealer Invoice.

Example but don't quote me exactly on these numbers - going off memory for what I am looking for:
    • TRD Offroad, DCLB base model
    • MSRP was ~$37,900
    • Dealer Invoice was ~$35,100
    • Diff = $2,800
Some dealers are willing to show you there invoice documentation if you ask. It can be awkward to ask. 2 of the last 3 vehicles I have purchased I have asked to see their invoice and they showed them to me. One was in 1997, the other in 2004. 3rd one was in 2013 and I did not ask to see their invoice as I think I already had it from Edmunds.com (or similar source) so I knew I was getting a good price.

Invoice is not truly what dealers pay. They get a kickback later on based on volume of sales and other incentives. The Costco program the dealer is "supposed" to sell it to you for something like $1500 below invoice. Many have reported here that dealers are not honoring that.

I was told by the Toyota authorized Costco Dealer in my neighborhood about 3 weeks ago that they are not currently offering discounted prices on the Tacoma TRD models. That may be different now as I have not checked back with them, but I doubt it. In mid-October, when I first contacted them through Costco, they gave me about a $1,000 discount off of MSRP, which seemed to be the Costco member discount. They may have given me a slightly better price if I was aggressive and went in, but I was not ready to pull the trigger at that time, and was just starting to do research.

I am working with a dealer now on Costco pricing but I need to have the truck ordered or they need to find one a do a trade. It is a bit of a unicorn. I was expecting them to say they won't honor Costco pricing on an order but they have not said that yet. They found a few that are planned to be built at the factory in the next 30-45 days but told me they are all spoken for so they are trying to find out where they are going and if they can make a swap. They gave me the range of MSRPs for them and added "before the Costco discount" and that this could take up to 3 months.

I am not in any rush so I am letting them do there thing to verify they can get me what I want, then we can deal with the pricing. I'm hoping they pull thru. I will post here if I am successful and what the price ended up being vs. MSRP.

THis is a good trend, I tried Costco pricing back in June and I couldn't even get the dealer I was referred to to call me back or return emails. It was like once they heard "Costco" they put their heads in the sand.

Yeah. I'd prefer it to be accurate just for principal if anything haha. I built the same one on Toyota.com and the MSRP is correct as long as the freight is added on to it. It actually isn't at the dealership that I'm talking to as far as I know which is annoying. Also I think that I would still pay the remaining MD sales tax at the MVA when registering. I actually used a good price I got from a VA dealership to get them down to this price.

Thanks for the information! I would think that the dealerships would be very reluctant to divulge that - if they are truly accurate!

Somewhat related! For those of you that have opted for the TRD Premium Off-Road / Sport Package and the Advanced Technology Package versus the base TRD package any thoughts - pros & cons? I initially wanted the Premium Package ($5,000) - but really just wanted the heated leather seats, JBL stereo and the color coordinated matching rear bumper (the base TRD OR has a partially chrome rear bumper - UNBELIEVABLE). Additionally the Premium Package is typically bundled with the Advanced Technology Package for a total bundle of $5,900. I could really care a less about the sun roof and all of the tech / camera features. $5,900 would go a long way towards installing heated seats and upgraded stereo + future tires, wheels, suspension, rear cap, etc. My wife thinks I am crazy for not wanting the premium package and tech features. Honestly, more of a question of utility than affordability. I would buy a TRD Pro with a long bed in a heart beat if that existed! Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I am in discussions with three dealerships in the MD / DC suburbs for a base TRD Off Road DCLB Cement - MSRP $39,947 & $40,167. Discount dealer #1 - $1,398. Discount dealer #2 - $1,847. Discount dealer #3 - $2,000. Not too much wiggle room here at this time (3.5 - 5.0% off MSRP). This does not include the $1,000 rebate or 1.9% finance option.

I was on the fence about these packages too.. its really just about what you want. I came from a 2013 Hyundai and thought the stock 2021 Sport came with enough "upgrades" without adding bloated packages from the factory. I'd say keep your money, drive it for a week or so, and figure out specifics you could spend the money on aftermarket.

wow, not much of a wiggle room... I think you have more buying power when you are physically there... but if you need time to go to deal with their BS. You also need a bring a negotiating face. The 1.9 % financing is with toyota finanical?

We've had a DCLB TRD Premium Off-Road + Advanced Tech truck for about a 150 miles so not much time at all. My daily driver (2014 Mercedes E63 wagon) has the 360 camera and I've really grown to love it so I wanted that on the truck. Like you said this also means the truck would most likely have the TRD Premium Off-Road package and since my wife also wanted leather seats that worked out for us. We didn't even notice the sunroof until they walked us through the features at delivery.

I also wanted the LED headlights so I was going to end up with one of the technology packages in any case.

    Cons:
Cost, a DCLB TRD-OR with TRD Premium + Advanced Tech MSRPs higher than a TRD Pro. Probably more wiggle room on the DCLB at the dealer.
Sensors in the rear bumper, I don't think this is isolated to Premium or Advanced Tech, but if you ever wanted a plate rear bumper you will probably lose the rear cross traffic and blind spot assist.
More stuff to break. I have a 2004 TRD and part of the reason it's been so reliable is that there is less complexity.

    Pros:
It's all factory and has a warranty.
Depending on the feature it is probably cheaper to get the package than DIY the upgrade with Toyota parts.

If I look at the parts diagrams the heating elements for the seats are sold individually, I'm not sure what the story is with the controls but you could price it all out and see if it's worth it vs just getting the seats from the factory (and getting the rest of the bundle).
