When you place an order for a truck that isn’t here, you don’t go to Toyota and select everything you want and order it... well, you do in a way. But Toyota already has the trucks that they are going to build all planned out. So you essentially go order one, and then Toyota allocates the build to you, if it’s available and planned to be built.

Got it, so it isn't exactly a custom order. It is you saying, here is my ideal build and they get whatever is closest from what they already have planned?

yeah. And generally they’ll have it rolling into production or already built. And your dealer will select it to be sent to them. Which is why people have been having a hard time recently finding the 2020 they want. Production on them is pretty much over, so the trucks available for allocation are slim to none.

I don’t negotiate in that manner. I always approach a purchase as if it’s a cash deal with no trade.

I rarely finance. And I rarely trade. In the current market you’d be foolish to trade unless they are offering retail money.

Especially true if the new truck is MSRP.

I always look at the total deal as you are suggesting, but I short circuit the dealer circus right off the bat. Definitely not my first rodeo.

And your purchase strategy is a good one that works for you. I think what you're missing is that the template is not made/needed for you. As you said, its not your first rodeo. You're aware of the ins and outs of Tacoma purchasing. The template was made for those whom it IS their first rodeo. They can unknowingly skew the numbers by including $1000s of dealer add-ons like grossly overpriced nitrogen filled tires as part of the MSRP. You don't trade in because you know that dealers like to give thousands less than a vehicle is worth when trading in. Most people assume that "Oh well, you're always going to lose out when trading in a vehicle at a dealership." This is not true. Trade in allowance can be negotiated. First Rodeo purchasers skew the data by not including these things then saying that they got 14% off MSRP. It also helps unsuspecting first time buyers by pointing out what should be included in a deal so that if the dealer is passing off some bogus $800 dealer prep fee as normal then those of us with experience can point that out.

Main point: If 10 people use it...Great!...more accurate data. If no one uses it....Nothing lost. No downside. I don't see the problem. It's not like I'm saying don't give the info in the original post...

*What you said makes sense except the foolish part. To each their own with regards to the lengths you care to go to when conducting a transaction. Some people don't feel like dealing with tire kickers and irrational low-ballers. I don't think that makes you "foolish".

Current offer, MSRP on a 21 LR Pro AT $47.9k, $36.5k trade in on my loaded 20 Cement OR, would be delivered in 6 wks.

Waiting for a few more dealers to see if I can get an earlier allocation and better offer on my trade, plus I'm not 100% sure I want to jump ship yet.

For sure, but the first year colors always command MSRP or markup over the standard Pro colors. They have a 2020 TRD Pro on the lot they offered me for $46.5k, but its SW and not a fan.

I had originally inquired about a metallic gray, but the dealer already had an allocation to be built for midnight black and super white. After reading about the flaking/fading/peeling problems here on the Super White, it scared me away. Besides, my jeep is white with black trim and I wanted something different. Black wasn't my first choice, but certainly wasn't my last. I would give my left arm for a Cavalry Blue Pro, or a VooDoo Blue Pro. There is a Cavalry blue Pro in the parking lot at work. I can't help but drool every time I go past it.

Don't the 18 Cav blues, don't have JBL, moonroof, power seat, apple carplay, 360 cam, etc. And black is gorgeous especially in PRO trim, I'm just moving back to AZ at some point and tired of the maintenance that comes with black paint.

Nice, I confirmed my TRD PRO deposit is refundable, just need to talk myself into trading a perfectly fine Cement OR for Lunar rock, lol.

I’m trading in my 2020 TRD Camry, paid 30K for it 6.5 months and 8K miles ago. Got $27.5K plus the tax deferral, so taxes on the new Tacoma are $300. It was fun, but I missed the Tacoma : )

Yep, we have tax credit here too. Was offered $36.5k for my 2020 TRD OR, paid $39k in Feb, just not sure the additional $11k is worth the jump for LR pro goodness.

Northwest suburbs of Chicago here. I went to 3 dealers and all were sticker plus...no deals to be had because of pent up demand for Tacomas. Two wheel drive no problem to get a deal.. I used the Costco website and found a dealer that was a little farther away, but the only one listed. I asked for a TRD Off Road DC 4x4 with a tonneau cover. List was $39,105. He printed the Costco price and it was $36,400, plus tax and their doc fee of $300. Thats it. He told me any other accessories would be at his cost. Simple, thats 6% or so discount, good enough for me during this crazy time, so I bought it. He also said Toyotathon will be going when my truck is delivered, and he would hold it to see what incentives might be available then. Great guy, no BS at all, it was easy. Sure, it might be possible at a different demand time to get a few more percent, but this as a good price right now. Pauly Toyota in Crystal Lake.

Bad time to be shopping, I’m in your region (Naperville) and bought my 19 for 13% off MSRP (Elgin) and my 20 12% (Naperville) in feb.

Toyotathon is usually for left over models and usually not specials for new MY just FYI.
