I’ve been wanting to buy a newer 2nd gen but with current market prices I really don’t want to spend $25K+ for a 10+ year old truck with 100k+ miles. What have you guys been paying? If prices become more reasonable I’d definitely buy one.

(Also if any one wants to sell theirs message me lol)

Your price estimates are the going rate around here depending on configuration and condition. General prices vary greatly depending on location. Good deals are still to be had if you have enough patience.

I would love to get out of my super white 13 that is starting to have paint issues. I paid 26k even for it with 38k miles back in 2017. It’s fully loaded with every available option including factory heated seats and block heater. What would 26k get me now? The exact same truck I have now but a different color. I can’t see paying 26k for a 9 year old truck that’s approaching 100k.

The majority of people tend to think that the price increases are temporary and prices are going to fall in the future. While I would love this in my opinion this isn’t very likely. Stuff doesn’t generally get cheaper just because. The car market isn’t going to experience a crash like the 08 housing market. The strategy has changed for dealers and manufacturers. They can control inventory and increase profit by doing so. No business owners wants to accept a lower profit margin year over year. Year end liquidation and blowout over inventory sales are long gone. I don’t know about the chip situation but the steel shortage is over. Has been over since 2Q/3Q of 2021. I currently work at a steel mill and have for the past 11 years. While our prices have come down considerably to purchase raw material our customers are still paying bloated prices. Company made all time record profits last year on average volume of sales. It’s disgusting.

    My opinion and not advice.
If you see a good deal on a truck you like buy it. Could it possibly be cheaper in the future? Yes. Could they be even more expensive than they are now in the future? Yes.

It is a bit frustrating buying anything used. Everyone wants top dollar for trucks that have over 100k. I stopped looking a month or so ago when dealer was asking 25k for a 2015 with dings and dents witth FN hub caps on it. Then salesman told me he would give me 3k more in trade for a new truck that I could not get (2022 DCLB off road).

Yeah I agree. Obviously I wish it would come down some, but at the same time I could see it continuing to go up, especially if inflation is bad.

this is what I’ve been seeing pretty much locally. https://asheville.craigslist.org/ctd/d/franklin-2015-toyota-tacoma-access-cab/7442889485.html

2015 Access Cab SR5 with a Auto and 4wd with 65k miles for $26,995. This truck was probably cheaper new. I know for sure a equivalent 2022 wouldn’t be much more.

I pulled the Carfax and it’s a 4 owner truck with a reported accident. It’s gone through multiple auto auctions too.

I don’t think there are any reasonable prices right now. I believe I paid around $33,000 brand new and 7 years later kbb says it’s still worth $25,000 with 125,000 miles

I recently got a 2015 DCLB Sport with a few mods I was thinking about anyway w/ 93k miles for 27k. Was a steal in my opinion

I want to have one that I can beat on a little more. I’d take it and lift it and probably put a supercharger on it. I don’t really want another 3rd gen since I’ve already had 3. I’d like a little more variation. I’d keep my 22’ and also have a 2nd gen.

I’ve also thought about just buying a side by side, but I’d like something I can still drive around on the road.

I live in CA and flew out of state to New Mexico to get away from the CA taco tax. Paid $16k with 130k miles. Might be worth considering looking at other states but not rust states!

Yeah I have about a 1500 mile Radius I’ve been looking in quite a while. If I could find a deal like you mentioned I’d definitely jump on it.

I got my 2011 SR5 AC V6 AT this past October for 24k with 58k miles with spyder headlights (thanks to TW i'm now expecting them to die on me) 3in spacer lift up front and 1in block in the back for the 2021 Fisher 7'2 HS Plow and a new Kenwood Recv. and Compustar remote starter with the drone mobile app and a back rack and nerf bars.

I'm starting to really believe i got a deal, i actually met the previous owner who paid for all the new bits, he told me the plow was 5k by itself.
i'm the 3rd owner, the first was quasi corporate and no accidents.

This is the way to go about it. I got a deal similar to this on my 2014 albeit with a few less miles on it. It can pay to be patient.

I picked up a 2012 Tacoma TRD OR Access Cab w/ 61k on the clock for $23,500. It was being sold by a Dodge dealer down the road from my work, and had an impeccable maintenance history (though I doubt they looked at it as closely as I did). I didn't try to haggle like I should have, since it was one of the couple specs that I would've accepted and the price was definitely fair enough in my opinion, especially given Toyota truck values in Colorado.

2011 TRD Off Road 67k miles Paid 22k in 10/21. The market is nuts and 4x4 trucks are hard to find. I drove 6hrs each way for this truck because it was too good to pass up. The previous owner also did spark plugs, brake fluid flush, coolant flush and changed all other gear fluids as well. So my point would be to be patient and just keep looking, deals still show up now and then.

Although you said you wanted a change of pace with a 2nd gen, with the inflated used pricing you may want to consider a lower trim 3rd gen for the same kind of $$$. You'll still have the blank slate you desire along with a new truck warranty. 2 examples in the link. I've no affiliation with the dealer.
