I really liked his sc-fi short story All The Way Back

I'll have to look into some of his other writings.

I just started reading Against A Dark Background by Iain M. Banks.

I decided to check it out after stumbling across some commentary regarding the Lazy Gun that is featured in the story. The Lazy Gun is intelligent/sentient.

The Lazy Gun is the only weapon known to display a sense of humor.

To fire the Lazy Gun, it is pointed at the target, zoomed in, and then the trigger is pulled. What happens next is unpredictable. When fired at humans, many different things may occur. An anchor may appear above the person, giant electrodes may appear on either side of the target and electrocute them or an animal may tear their throat out. Larger targets such as tanks or ships may suffer tidal waves, implosion, explosion, sudden lava flows or just disappear. When fired at cities and other such targets, thermonuclear explosions are the norm, although in one instance a comet crashed into the city.

I've put that one on pause as I've been pointed to The Deathworlders by Philip R. Johnson which I find more interesting/entertaining.

It's also a much bigger universe with some content being added by other authors (ie, the Salvage series which exists in the same universe and has some crossover characters).

I don't want describe it. It really can be a political hot potato.

Do yourself a favor and see if your library has it. It really is a good read!PXL_20220914_210447990.jpg PXL_20220914_210533557.jpg

This year, I've hit the most expansive, grim and fantastic series in 'Fantasy' The Malazan Book Of The Fallen by Steven Erikson. Holy toledo, that is a smoker.
By JRR Tolkien: Children Of Hurin - a fine read for those who enjoy 'olde' style speech, tragic - and the mighty Lord Of The Rings, such a work of art.
Heinlein's: Stranger In A Strange Land. Thought provoking. Interesting to get the perspective of a book began in ~'50 and finished in ~60, and re-read, it's been a decade or two, Starship Troopers. Superb short story.
