Bram Stoker's "Dracula". off printed paper. ILL is a great thing!
Just finished "Entangled Life" by Sheldrake. It's a small book with interesting perspective.

Regarding paper vs electronic, I stopped trusting electronic format about 10-12 years ago. One day I logged into a platform (don't remember which one) where I had spent several hundred dollars buying music only to find about 25% of my music missing. When I submitted a help request I was told that I didn't actually buy the music, I bought a license to play the music. The way the platform worked was that I could download the songs and play them without being connected to the internet but if I didn't log in while online periodically so the licenses could be verified the files would stop working. In the case of the songs I lost, the platform and the record label had a falling out so the platform lost their ability to license the songs.

I legitimately do like hard copies and am less likely to start browsing online than I am if I'm reading on my phone but the issue above is a major reason I buy hard copies now. I also have a lot of concern over availability of certain books as political interests shift and censorship (for whatever reason) becomes more common and it's much easier to take an electronic format off of a platform than it is to take a hard copy out of my study. Maybe I'm just paranoid though.

The First Law is an excellent trilogy. I reread it again earlier this year.

Ok I read Jack Carr`s Terminal List not bad for his first time.

I does have a very interesting plot and does make one think.

Let`s see how number 2 is.

I can say I would have enjoyed it more back in my Bang Bang Shootem up period.

Because I read so many Books in the genre I got Burned out I read so many different Authors

    I really like McCullough’s books.

It’s an oddly interesting book, just weird.

That’s how I’ve been feeling too, I’ve picked up some books that would probably be in that group to disappear. I keep an eye out for books like that a lot now.

This particular book is a collection of his speeches. It's not bad but it's not what I thought it would be. Also have 1776 in my "to read" pile and want to read his book on John Adams.

I've been somewhat doing the same but once I get my stack whittled down some I'll probably be more intentional about it. Have 1984, Farenheit 451, Watership Down, and Animal Farm on that list. Oddly it seems o need to add To Kill a Mockingbird since it "makes people uncomfortable" which is kind of the point.

I have both 1776 and John Adams in my to read pile. I’ve just been picking up stuff at my local thrift shop, I just grab what I can from there, usually 2$ a book, buy 4 get one free. I tend to pick up the stuff that is becoming less popular as well, like Flood’s “Lee”.

To kill a mockingbird is a great story, I’d like to find a hardcover copy.

The only book that I have ever really disliked (made me “uncomfortable” I guess) was Lord of the Flies. I get the lesson, I just didn’t like the presentation I suppose.

Lord of the Flies , Catcher in the Rye that really hits the way back machine I think Jr High

Funny thing when forced to read something I tend not to like it. Except for the Illiad and Odyssey which I had read in elementary school.

I started reading very young with a World Atlas and a USA atlas if a location was mentioned I wanted to know where it is A habit I still have today.

I always had a dictionary handy to help with the big words.

I had the same issue with assigned reading at school. Let's take a book and dissect it for weeks, down to the most minute detail, all the while turning reading into a chore. I can't think of a better way to make someone lose interest in a book or reading as a whole.

My second grade teacher was pretty awesome, though. I also started reading at a very young age, and by that point was getting into novels. She saw that I was bored with assigned books, and convinced the school library that I could check out anything I wanted even though it was "above the reading level of someone my age".

I’m always flipping through maps. My parents had this world atlas book, it was fancy and large, I loved it. I get carried away on google maps a lot nowadays.

Lord of the Flies was the only one I didn’t like, everything else, required or not, I enjoyed reading.
I disliked it enough that I’ve never even wanted to waste my time trying to figure out why I dislike it

I remember reading Fahrenheit 451 in high school and liked it for the most part. I tried to reread it a few couple of years ago and for some reason,I could not get into it. I don't know why either.

Have you played GeoGuessr? I had a couple weeks off after a deployment and played that for too long. Closest I got was like 250 miles somewhere in the Philippines.

I haven’t, I’ll have to look it up. Is that the one where you have to find a location from a picture?

I have to be in the right mode for certain books, I’ve been reading civil war stuff and switched to some business practice type deal and it’s arduous.
I’m just going to have to shelve it for now until I can give it the proper attention.

Tale of two cities was like that when I went to read it again, good book, I just couldn’t get through it the same.

I must say Jack Carr`s 2nd book ( True Believer)is so much better then the first book (Terminal List)

It continues where the first book finishes .

    on to book 3

I am not sure what he changed but he seems to fit right in with the greats in this field if this holds your interest

I have to laugh at the redactions why bother they are so easy to understand what was removed.

That would be it. Apparently they have a new version but the classic version is still available.
