Final epi of season. Hmmm..............damn

 

Pretty good. Definitely entertaining.

I never played the game, but I can see where the show kind of feels like a game. One-man-army Joel clearing NPCs with a Mini 14 haha. Kind of irks me that he never holds on to the dozens of ARs/M4s he picks up. He even made a comment in one of the first episodes that ammo for the M4 is almost impossible to find or something like that .

It has been renewed for a season 2 already, but knowing HBO it will be 2 years or more before we get it

 

I thought it was really good, the main disappointment I see people having with it was that it wasn't longer which I do agree with. People familiar with the game say that they are skipping a lot of conflict that happens with the infected in the show, but then again in a video game there has to be a lot of that kind of action to keep the players engaged.

but for a finale it would have been nice to have it be a little longer than the standard 50 min episode, but given that I still thought it was good

I don't understand why Amazon and HBO seem to think that a season of TV still has to be 8 episodes that are 45 minutes long. The advantage of getting away from conventional cable is that you don't have to fit into an hour long slot and make scenes work around the ad schedule but Amazon would apparently rather just rush Reacher than make that flexibility work for them.

 

I think it's a budget thing more than anything, particularly with these production-heavy shows like Last of Us and House of the Dragon....I can't think of any Amazon examples right now but I know it's like that with Netflix and others too, unless it's a sitcom kind of show which usually has more. But also way cheaper to produce.

I wouldn't be so aggravated by it if not for the fact that post-covid it's now taking them 2+ years to do follow up seasons...Game of Thrones back in the day (2012?) was 10 episode seasons but the following season would be out less than a year after the previous one ended. But those days are behind us I'm afraid

 

I also think there's sooo much competition now between all the streaming platforms to make the latest and greatest show/movie that it hinders their ability to actually produce the good ones they do come up with.

 

I guess I'm just bitter that Reacher wasn't as good as I was hoping.

 

Problem with Joel in The Last of Us is he uses them with great effect in the moment, then leaves them in favor of picking up a far less useful bolt action or pistol.

 

Conserving ammo?

 

Watched All Quiet on the Western Front again this weekend with all the Oscar buzz going on. I really liked the movie and had previously seen the other 2 versions. The battlefield scenes were unbelievable and the characters were well chosen. I don't remember how the other 2 ended but I didn't care for the way this one ended. Who would launch an assault the last 10 minutes of the war?
Also watched Hero's with Fonzie / Henry Winkler playing a Vietnam vet still fighting the war. I remember going to see it in 1977 and all hype about it was one of the first films related to Vietnam. There was a potentially good story to tell but it was lost with bad acting, and to much silliness for such a difficult topic. Sally Fields was still hot.

 

Great season finale of TLOU. Also enjoy watching after the show the behind the scenes where they discuss the episode. They will def have another season.
