    The Shining (1980). Max. Good acting and memorable one-liners but was not impressed with the story, and didn’t find the film that scary.

    Halloween (1978). Plex. Let the slashing begin. Classic horror flick.

    If u watch the Shining u have to follow it with Doctor Sleep. It's about Danny as an adult. But if u didn't enjoy the Shining it might not b worth ur time.

    Read that the author, Stephen King, did not like the movie. I try to enjoy/review the movie on it’s own merits.

    Videodrome (1983). Peacock. Pretty good special effects for 80’s. Envious of Woods in bed with a naked Deborah Harry.

    E.T. (1982). OK site. A good film for kids. Pretty lame now, I’m sure I may have liked it more when it came out.

    7th Heaven (1927). Tubi. Better than Wings for the Oscar in my book in 1st Academy Awards ceremony. Gaynor won for best actress, and Farrell was good too.

    Brief Encounter (1945). PlutoTV. Well made film about an affair cut short.

    Broken Blossoms (1919). Tubi. Interesting silent movie. Based on a play; so, can’t really fault it for the pedophile overtones, and turns out, the director toned it down from the play. The acting seems routine for the times. An average silent film in my book.

    The Phantom Treehouse (1984). Youtube. An Australian animated film. Not overly inventive but I’m sure it would appeal to pre teens.

    Don’t know if anyone here is into Criterion films.
    But I picked these up at Barnes & Noble on sale.
    IMG_5893.jpg
    so far, I’ve been able to watch…
    Sword of Doom;
    A nihilistic samurai takes money to kill, but that’s the thing, he enjoys it too much. Nearly anll who come in contact with him perish. And he’s haunted by his past. Truly a violent & brutal movie that I can’t believe was filmed in 1965.

    Kuroneko;
    A ghost story set outside of a small village somewhere in Japan. These 2 Ghosts lure men back to a house, drink their blood(they aren’t vampires) and then dump the bodies back outside of the village for the villagers to find.
    Soon, The Lord of the Village hires a man who was conscripted in the army to get to the bottom of the situation.
    Killer visuals for a 1968 movie!

    Lady Snowblood;
    This is perhaps the movie that inspired Tarantino the most, for his Kill Bill films.
    A woman is brutally attacked and then left to father a child whilst in prison.
    The mother dies in prison, the child is raised by the other inmates, and once she is released, she goes on a bloody spree of vengeance.

    Yojimbo;
    Have you ever seen “A Fistful of Dollars” ??? If you said yes, then this movie is the movie that inspired “Fistful of Dollars.”
    It is the same story, but set in Japan.

    I was also able to grab this collection;
    IMG_5894.jpg

    Fantastic Asian cinema.
    I absolutely love these films.

    @Crowkiller06 A good chunk of Criterion films are on Max. I watched Yojimbo there a few months ago, and Lady Snow Blood is also there. The Criterion Channel app is available on Roku, but the subscription is $99/year and I don't want to add another subscription service. Besides, I figured out how to mirror my iPad/iPhone to my TV and can stream good quality films off various websites, like Internet Archive, Vimeo, Dailymotion, OK, etc …

    Max is free if you already have HBO on cable. Just download the Max app and follow the instructions to integrate your subscription.

    we have Max through a relative.
    And I am aware of the Criterion stuff they have. Not all, obviously, but a good chunk. I’ve tried to stick to only purchasing physical media of the stuff that I either can’t get elsewhere, or, just stuff that I love and want to own(I have Godzilla Criterion collection).

    I’ll have to look into mirroring my wife’s iPad onto the tv.

    Ans you aren’t kidding about subscriptions. This is just getting ridiculous.

    Thanks for the info & tips!

    Vertigo (1958). OK website. Typical solid Hitchcock thriller. You can’t take a break on this one, lest you miss a crucial scene.

    Killer of Sheep (1978). OK website. “Set in the Watts area of Los Angeles, a slaughterhouse worker must suspend his emotions to continue working at a job he finds repugnant, and then he finds he has little sensitivity for the family he works so hard to support.” Good watch.

    Bout to stream the hell out of some Yellowstone and Landman.

    I left Texas to stay out of the Oil Field. I would have been 4th generation oil field worker if I did and it is my absolute gambling addiction punching holes for oil. Glad I moved to Electricity and left Texas.
