Two Aussie series on Netflix right now that worth recommending:

Upper Middle Bogan - Really fun comedy series. You might need to Google some of the cultural references to get the joke, but still very relatable to an American viewer. It's just good fun, and keeps the cringe to just the right level of funny (Kath and Kim would push the cringe a bit too hard). The camera work on the first season is a bit too much, though, but it calms down in the later seasons. Really find the deep dive into Aussie middle class culture fascinating.

Territory- Just started but looks to have a lot of promise. Also a fascinating look into Aussie culture. It's also has a lot of badass Toyota rigs in it. The differences to western US ranching is interesting.

Harlan County U.S.A. (1976). Max. Intense documentary account of 1973 coal miners strike in TN. Documentary Oscar in 1977.

Searching for Sugar Man (2012). OK site. Fascinating documentary of a forgotten American songwriter/musician, Sixto Gonzalez, whose two albums in early 1970’s fizzled. Somehow his music enters South Africa and is embraced by a generation opposing apartheid, eventually leading to Sixto’s mild musical resurgence. I downloaded the first album, Cold Fact, and it is pretty good. He passed away last year; RIP Sixto. Documentary Oscar in 2013.

Sixto Rodriguez. Loved his music. Intriguing musician. I was on a Detroit ruin binge a number of years ago. Came across one of his songs referenced in some material. Dug a little deeper and found all of his music. Really liked it. Especially the lyrics. Some songs are quite haunting. Painting a bleak picture of the late 60’s early 70’s Detroit decline. I had read about his fascinating connection with South Africa. I was thrilled that they had made a movie (Searching For Sugar Man) about it shortly after discovering his music and story.

Hmmm, it appears Territory is starting to jump the shark in the second eppie...as they would say. Ah well, I'll stick it out for the Yotas.

Watched “The First Omen” last night on Hulu.
Visuals are genuinely disturbing and unsettling. Don’t think I will ever watch this again though as it ends in a very bleak way.

Have you seen the Dead Men Don't Tour TV documentary? It predates the Sugar Man documentary by over ten years and was likely the impetus for Sugar Man. It aired in 2001 and focuses on the 1998 SA tours. You can watch it free on utube. His website, sugarman.org, remains active.

I really enjoyed Tokyo Vice on HBO. The story line and cinematography are what hooked me most. I'm currently watching The Recruit on Netflix.

I need to go back and rewatch, the show was so good in the first 2 or 3 seasons before it got crazy popular and transitioned more into the prime-time soap opera that it is now. But I'm committed so I'll stick it out through the end lol.

Ooh you are in for a treat. At least up until season 7 lol. Seasons 1 - 4 of GoT are some of the best TV made, in my opinion.

It was good up until the showrunners were allowed to get ahead of the books and then go off the rails. If I remember correctly, it's not worth watching after the red wedding. The last two seasons were insufferable.

The showrunners for GoT are the epitome of bad TV production. Everything they touch turns to crapola.
