umm hope your not serious, if you are it is a music service similar to pandora but is superior in my opinion due to ability to download music and create your own playlists with the paid subscription.

That's already pretty fancy to me!

I'm finally moving away from CDs after getting a Tacoma. My previous truck only had a radio and a single disc CD player. Which, along with the key fob, I thought was pretty high tech at the time I got it.

I might still buy CDs here and there if they're cheaper than a digital download.

Do you all leave your drives plugged into the USB port even when the truck is off? It doesn't draw power or drain the battery while the truck is off?

Not that I'm aware of, I've had a flash drive plugged in for three years and my battery is still strong.

Tidal hifi service. Higher quality than Spotify, itunes, mp3, or Pandora. You can stream CD quality music. You can also download to your phone whatever you want. You do loose some resolution if you use Bluetooth. The Tacoma has a music port it that's important to you.

I'm guessing that streaming is pretty useless if you're out of cell/wifi range.

I have an old 80gb ipod thaat every now and then seems to disappear from the audio options. A force restart seems to fix it but it's happened a few time

Would an SSD drive be better?

An SSD drive in the iPod?

Or did you mean a USB flash drive in the auto's USB media port?

I use a SanDisk Cruzer Fit (as others here have recommended) with MP3s that I used to use with a Kenwood DPX500BT. When I got rid of the old vehicle with the aftermarket Kenwood, I pulled the flash media out, put it in the Tacoma and off I went.

If you don't tag your MP3s intelligently (include track numbers as part of the tag!), getting albums to play in "track order" will be problematic, but as long as there are ID3 tags on the media files, the Tacoma will play them in some order it may decide that you might not like.

Compared to tape decks and CDs, even with any warts, being able to load thousands of tracks onto a 10 dollar chip the size of a thumbnail and play them on the road, without skips, and without worrying about environmental damage (tapes in the heat/humidity) -- amazing.

Of course streaming with the phone via bluetooth is something I do when the USB cache of media isn't what I want to hear.

Amazing options on factory entertainment these days.

Just for reference, I only have the 2019 SR -- nothing extra like tech/etc packages with the Taco.

    Enjoy

I wonder if anyone has tried a USB hub on the 2020 tacomas. It would be great to leave a USB flash drive connected fulltime and have an extra port for Android Auto.

I think that’s the only way to get multiple usb ports and keep the oem location. Ideally I’d like to run usb audio to the glove box & center console and still keep the one on the dash.

I had said that the iPod has frozen a few times and wouldn’t show up on the audio source screen until I force a restart.

I’ll look at those small drives, I just thought a 500gb ssd would be an option too. Ideally I’d like to have usb audio ports in the glove box & center console.
BT audio is definitely an option doesn’t sound as good as cabled, so I use it for podcasts.

Old 64gb iphone is the way to go. Spotify are hypocrites that hate the First Amendment...Fuck them. I wouldn't give them a cent.

256gb micro SD. I keep it in my phone so I can have music whenever needed. I'll bluetooth stream it in the truck. My hearing isn't the greatest anymore so I really can't tell the sound quality difference.
