I've made a living in the automotive industry. When I started working I decided to test the advice I heard from people working on cars, just to see if experience backed them up. Three thousand mile oil changes, rotating tires, changing spark plugs, transmission and radiator flushes, and all kinds of other things. It's called "cheap insurance" by people that do them regularly. Sixty years of driving, rebuilding vehicles, modifying vehicles, driving through the remote places, and talking to techs and car guys and customers with broken down cars... and I can tell you that the things that kill cars is more about the way you drive them than how you maintain them (within reason).
But you don't want to hear that...

As for the OP and the reason for the thread. If the guy is looking to replace brakes for the first time at 109K, I'd say he probably has good driving habits.

^Except brake fluid degradation doesn't depend on driving habits. The fluid absorbs moisture and turns acidic over time. This happens whether the driver is hard on brakes or not.

Brake fluid replacement was every 48 months in the Toyota maintenance booklet until the early 2010s, when Toyota had multiple recalls related to master cylinder failures. Thereafter the replacement interval was shortened to 36 months.

Max brakes here in Canada. They deliver right to your door, usually the next day...

Haven't needed them yet, on my 2017 SR5. She's only got 44k on her. But, I would absolutely order OEM Toyota through Sparksparts.com and have the same thing put back on. I've heard and read soOo many people having well over 100k on the original pads, and A LOT even having them rotors resurfaced and put back on and kept trucking another 50k. Why mess with what works? May be different if I was consistently pulling a trailer daily/weekly or lived in a super harsh up and down steep/graded mountainous region.

Drivers over time have gotten worse, I'm going to whole heartedly grant you that and different areas or states in the country have different driving cultures. Having driven in 43 states I have def developed some stereotypes of the drivers.

That said, anyone who commutes for a living knows there are things you see people do every day that shock you it didn't cause an accident. I drive 25 mi each way and every day I'd say 2-3 times on each drive I see things or have to react to things to prevent being dragged into someone's accident.

I've not done a ton of driving in that area recently but I'd imagine there are a fair amount of aholes who have moved there and brought their shitty driving with them.

Probably mainly highway miles. Just like the people who have a million miles on their trucks. They're always long distance drivers.
