This. Super good for dry skin too, and my heeler mixes past and present love it. I also add some frozen peas & carrots to the evening meal.

Glad to see other people paying attention and doing their homework, Fromm is awesome. I'd also recommend anyone feeding Blue Wilderness line to check out Fromm 4star grain-free.

Lemme show you some of the tricks played on consumers...

Watch for ingredient splitting. Ingredient splitting is when a manufacturer will split an ingredient in to multiple factions, in order to move ingredients further back in the ingredient panel. AFFCO standards dictate ingredients must be listed in order of prevalence by dry ingredient weight. Just like human food, what first is what there is the most of. See the example below....

    http://www.nutro.com/natural-dog-food/natural-choice-dog-food/dry/lid-adult-lamb-and-rice.aspx

Rice has been factioned into three separate ingredients where as combined, they would be listed first. Nutro Lamb and Rice's most prevalent ingredient is actually rice followed by deboned lamb, and then Lamb meal. The Lamb meal being the most protein dense ingredient... I'd rather see that first.

Now is the Nutro a bad food? Millions of dogs thrive on it. IMO you are paying a higher price for this food due to brand recognition and not necessarily ingredient quality.

I always want to see the first two if not three ingredients to be named meat ingredients. YMMV...

Has anyone here had (or have) a dog with an allergy? Last night, my six-month old Goldendoodle puppy kept me up all night because of some sort of reaction. He was very itchy, chewing his front and back paws, scratching, etc. First time this has happened. He scratches himself and chews once and a while, but last night was something else. He's still going for the back paw today, but I'm trying my best to take his mind off it. He was also shaking his head last night like something was in there. Maybe a loose hair or something? We've been feeding him the same food for four months. No issues.

Trying to think if we walked over anything funky. I walk him on a regular basis but almost always around the condo complex. Taking him to the vet in a few hours.

Blue buffalo wilderness. My dog's health is more important than saving a few dollars so I don't mind paying for it.

Thanks guys. Came back from the vet. He was given a small dosage cortisone shot. We played for a bit when we got home and now he's sleeping like a baby. Will see how it goes. We'll give him a bath tomorrow, then continue doing so once every week (or perhaps twice a week) to see if that helps with the itching.

don't bathe him too often... with really dry his skin out. Get some oatmeal and pulverize it in a blender - mix with water to make a soggy paste, and put that on him after you are done shampooing him... get down to his skin and leave on 5 - 10 minutes then rinse. Oatmeal is good for itchy skin. It will be messy, but should help with the itchy skin. or just mix some in with the shampoo

Our golden has a thyroid condition and allergies. He is on a prescription antihistamine, a omega supplement, and thyroid meds twice a day. No chicken, pork, beef, soy, corn, or wheat in his diet. We feed Holistic Select Lamb Kibble along with a little of their duck or lamb wet to make a little gravy for him. We also dry apple, banana, and sweet potato which he loves as treats.

It's definitely worth trying your best to keep them off of steroids if at all possible. They destroy their kidneys over time and our Vet says that it should be a last resort. Best wishes for your pooch...

Looking at options for switching our new pup onto vs. what she was eating from the breeders.

Opinions on Nutro Naturals Chicken and rice? Seemed decently priced and ingredients list looked decent.

southern states 24/20 mix. We are feeding 4 very active, hard trained beagles with it and they are doing awesome. $20 for 40 lbs.

The only other feed I would go with is Purina Pro Plan Sport Mix, only difference I have seen is less poop.

Yous that feed all natural, grain and corn free, yuppy food are out of your mind. $55 for 25 lbs or whatever absurd price you are paying to feed a dog that sleeps on the couch all day. Unless the dog has some sort of allergy. To each his own I guess.

My 2 yr old lab gets Iams Large Breed. He's was on Iams Large Breed Puppy when I bought him from my breeder so if that's good enough for the breeder, it's good enough for me.

Drives a $30,000 truck, feeds his dog $20 dogfood, calls people who feed better quality food 'yuppies' who are out of their mind.

You are very right in saying, "to each his own."

PS I added a pic of one of my dogs sleeping on the couch to my Avatar...
