I'm not usually one to boycott anything but I will not buy BP gas anymore. :crapstorm:
The station I usually buy from switched from BP to Marathon a few months back so now I buy Marathon.
    Just in time.

Phillips 66 because it's 2 blocks from my house. But if I'm in the town I work in.....I go to WalMart...ALWAYS at least $.25 cheaper a gallon.

I put in Shell since the one near my work is cheaper then most places. I am thinking of trying Costco gas.

I've been running Costco gass for a few tanks now, and I admit that I'm pleased. It's cheaper than on the base and I've been averaging almost 21mpg to a tank. That's on 4 fill ups.

Costco does not have their own refinery. They get it from the same pipe line.

I was surprised that Shell is so far ahead.

I have a friend who used to work for Chevron. He said that the techron additive they put in all three grades of their gas is legit. It won't improve MPGs, but it will help your car maintain them as it gets older. He said the invigorate additive that BP puts in its gas does the same thing.

Shell only puts a similar additive in their highest-grade gas. Buying Low or Mid-grade Shell gas is the same as getting it from one of the cheaper stations.

Not saying anything wrong with the gas... but why pay for the name when you're not getting anything for it?

I don't remember if I posted in this thread already... but I get all of my gas from BP. Have a credit card that gives 5% cash back, and the local BP station is consistently $.05 to $.10/gallon less than the Chevron, Texaco and Shell stations down the street.

I use anything but BP. Oil spill aside, school instructors and fellow mechanics alike have told me that BP is poor quality fuel.

I remember back in the day, my carb'd trucks loved Texaco. I don't think I've seen one of them around here in at least 5 years.

The majority of cars are designed to run on regular gas, and that's what the manuals tell the owners to use. Higher-performance cars often require midgrade or premium gas because their engines are designed for higher compression (higher compression = more power), and regular gas may cause knock. If your car needs high-octane gas, the manual will say so. The point is, "premium" doesn't always mean "better."

    Great post, I agree 100%.
On what basis do they make those accusations? I'm curious to why they think top tier gas is of poor quality?

Anecdotal evidence. When a vehicle was in for a fuel related problem, ie. dirty, watery, poor fuel etc., the customer cited BP as the fuel they were using.
This could be just a sign of crappy BP stations in the Ohio area, but I avoid BP to be on the safe side. With their slow handling of the spill in the gulf, I will not buy BP ever again.

Yeah, could be that but millions of people use BP without a hitch, including me... I don't think that because one person had a bad experience with BP, it makes it poor quality all around. Could have been just a bad tanker load...

I always use BP, and will continue to do so... I guess we can agree to disagree. :)

Brand doesn't matter. Refineries sell the exact same gasoline to all gas stations, branded or not. Price and location are and should be the primary determinants.
