Any reason to spend almost double the $ on an OE hitch?

I have a base model Access Cab 4x4 4cyl. Only going to tow a small utility trailer or a small aluminum boat. Dealership quoted me $385 installed for a Curt brand hitch with harness. I seem to remember the factory hitch option was about twice that.

Does the OE hitch offer anything additional other than being a Toyota genuine part?

I got an aftermarket hitch, and have no problems with it... I dont even know what brand it is.

I purchased a Curt class III hitch and wiring harness off of eBay for around $180 shipped to my door. This is probably the fourth Curt hitch I have purchased (various vehicles) and have always been happy with their product.

The install on the Tacoma was fairly straight forward - I did it myself and it took roughly an hour. It would be easier with an other person when positioning the hitch.

Aftermarket hitch is no problem, but depending on how often you plan to tow I highly suggest a factory wiring harness.
