Depends on your needs and uses. I had a 2007 AC. Now have a 2016 DC. I have two kids so the AC worked for car seats but was not ideal. The DC is perfect. If I didn't have the kids it would be an AC. For the longer bed and same wheelbase.

Pretty subjective question the OP is asking, and I think instead of asking our opinion, it's probably best answered by yourself when you determine what you'll actually be using the truck for. If there was one configuration that worked for everyone, then that's the only configuration Toyota would make. Because people over the years have made suggestions and started using trucks more for things than just a work truck and they've become more of a crossover/lifestyle vehicle, truck companies started listening and making different versions.

You'll get replies that are all over the place, especially the guys here that think a SB is just a waste and the people who buy them are idiots. Don't listen to what everyone else says because their decision was based on their needs, not yours. Figure out what you're going to use the truck for and get the cab that suits those needs best.

I went with the DC. I don't have kids, and don't haul passengers in the back all the time, but when the need arises I have the option. If carrying full-size adult passengers in the back was a routine, everyday occurrence I'd probably would have looked at a different vehicle. For the occasional trip up to the mountains or to go snowboarding, mountain biking with buddies, etc you can make it work (and if they're not cool with it, then let them drive themselves in their own vehicle), but its not the most luxurious. Currently I have the seats folded down with indoor/outdoor carpet over folded seats for my dog. I currently have the factory Tonneau cover on my bed, but once I pick up a camper shell the dog will go in the bed and I'll fold my seats back up. I also prefer putting my music gear (guitars and amps) in the back of the double cab as opposed to having them in the bed, even if I do have the Tonneau cover on the bed.

Because I went with the DC, I ended up with the short bed. I live in a Suburb but drive into a major city for work, and the DCLB is just a pain making u-turns, tight turns, fitting into some parking spaces, etc. Sure some will argue that the LB is only a a foot longer, but for me and the amount of time I head into the city it wasn't worth getting a LB. My truck isn't used as a work truck and more as a lifestyle truck (traded a 2012 Outback for the Tacoma), so I do a little bit of everything with it, but nothing crazy heavy duty.I have a bed extender and an "Extend-A-Truck for the rare occasions when I really need that much more length in the bed (the Extend-A-Truck adds 50"). I also don't haul quads or motorcycles, and have an awesome Kuat bike rack that mounts in the 2" receiver for my mountain bikes, so again I went with the DC because I figured I'd use the space behind the front seats more than I'd utilize the extra foot of a long bed, but still have an actual truck bed for the times I don't want a smelly dog, stinky wetsuits, mulch, bags of concrete, etc int he cab.

I'd also add, and I'm sure other's will still disagree, but you may have an easier chance selling the vehicle in the used market when the time comes since it seems like Toyota sells more DC than they do AC, so DC's are probably slightly more desirable.

ive always had a AC and it worked fine for me. the longer bed also comes in handy, but im not a fan of the 2016 rear seats. my 2007 folded to a bench that allowed me to keep my tool box in the back which is something i wouldn't be able to do in the 2016....for that reason and future sake (growing family) ive order a DC with a short bed.

If the AC had space like the Tundra, I would get the AC.

But I have a DC now, and will be getting a 2016 DC as well

Access Cab. It's just me and I like the larger bed for working around the house. I also like to sleep in the bed when I camp and I'm 6'2" so I need the extra space.

my salesman demonstrated how opening the doors on a AC when in a parking space was a pain. you have a shopping cart full of stuff you have to open the front door to open the back door. when both doors open you are trapped between them. i know this is a bit of exaggeration but he did make a point.

I had an access cab in my 13 F-150. The suicide doors are a pain. Anytime someone needed in or out, I had to remove my seat belt, open my door & wait for them to get in or out and close their door first. The seat belt design was awful. Always having to open 2 doors got old, but that's with kids. I could have tolerated it more if I didn't have kids, probably.

If you're planning on having kids, get a DC. I bought an AC when I was 26, then had to trade it in on a DC and a fresh new truck payment at 32...

The question presumes we haven't already chosen, or we are supposed to recommend for you. Yet you give us no criteria to base a choice on?

    Ok.

I buy vehicles with a purpose in mind. I already have a nice people hauler/road vehicle, so no need for a DC. I already had a 2 seat sports car, so I didn't need something to toss money at to become a poseur. Staying on pavement with big lift and big tires.

I had an RC and loved it, but it was time for a newer model, and storage space was an occasional need for local outings. So I shopped AC, because I wanted to be able to store secure some things better, and didn't want a cap.

AC is the better looking truck proportionately. IMO
But, I'm on my 3rd DC because of practicality and my distain of the suicide doors.

Your salesman is lazy and probably parks as close as he can to the front door at Walmart. I park in the last row and have no problems opening my access cab doors. Keeps my truck free of door dings also.
