end game is simply taking quality pics. I guess I never thought about the ability to print them, but now that I think about it, yea. That’s be great. I have one pic that isn’t high enough quality and I wish it was. I suppose if it was good enough worth printing, Id want it to be at least 8x11. 99% would be web though. And only video if something was mind blowing. Quality of video isn’t necessary.

Oh and I’d like to keep the budget around 800-1000 for the camera. I know lenses can be pricey. But if 3-400/lense is doable that’d be cool. And do you guys think, hypothetically, it’s better to Have a great camera body with ok lenses, or more of a beginner camera body with great lenses, if you had to choose.

I’m going with the better lens (Sony E mount). Camera body tech is changing fast. Sony A73 & Alpha 5 body’s, GoPro7.

Sold my Nikon D810 Outfit and decided to jump in the mirrorless world with the Fuji X-T3 with 16-80. Went with this lens as I primarily shoot outdoor, landscape, etc. Didn't fully realize how big and bulky the Nikon was until the switchover. Everything fits nicely in a small/medium lowepro case.

If you can please try to buy from your local camera store that’d be awesome, should be the same price.

If you want something wider go for the 35mm 1.8, something longer go for the 85mm
1.8. You may find a good deal in the used market too.

Do you understand The relationship between aperture and depth of field & bokeh? The above lenses are great tools for learning About this...

Awesome! I’d say get it and play. One thing that’s really nice is its ridiculously lite weight.

one More thing... you have a crop sensor right? Go have a play with the 35 & 50 in your camera store. Because of the crop sensor and these lenses are designed for full frame the 35mm will have a field of view similar to the 50 (on a full frame) and the 50 will be similar to an 85mm. Neither is better per sey just a different view...

Anyone else looking at the Canon R5? I am thinking of pulling the 5DIV at some point in the near future. I shot Sony mirrorless for a few years and really, really miss some of the benefits.

Question for those of you who have moved from DSLR to mirrorless: I have a rarely used Canon T3i that I consider pretty bulky and for that reason don’t get as much use out of it as I’d like. On a recent trip that included a few days at Yellowstone I was left wishing I had a bit more camera than my iPhone. I’m considering upgrading to a Fuji X-T3 or X-T30. The X-T3 is the same price as the X-T30 right now due to the X-T4 launch.

I really enjoy composition, city and landscape photography. Did upgrading to a smaller rig make you a more frequent shooter or happier?

I went from Canon 30d to 40d to NEX-7 to Fuji x100t to A7s to A7RII to 5DIV (with some others in between). I definitely prefer size, weight, and silent shooting with mirrorless, which drove me to bring it more. Whereas the FF Sony’s were hardly noticeable on a hike, I definitely know when I have my canon with me.

I love Fuji, but unfortunately the low-light performance wasn’t good enough for doing very-low light photography at the time. That said, I definitely preferred the ‘feel’ of Fuji noise to sony/canon (more film like).

BLUF: I shot more and had a more enjoyable experience with mirrorless and Fuji. However, I wanted performance that wasn’t achievable without a FF camera.

    Zim,

Sorry for the late reply. Yes I did cross over from PH. I went to A School in Pensacola in 89-90 and then was forced into MC in 2007-2008. I finally retired as an MC Master Chief with Combat Camera in San Diego. You?

How did I know that...lol. Thanks Master Chief. I was a DM for 17 years and crossed over to PN so I could make rate and retire with high 3 pay...and it worked. 2003 called it quits. LOL. I did my time at NETPMSA at Saufley Field. I remember there were 248 Chiefs and 26 black shoes at my welcome party...The best of the best and the whole command listed to port..ahahahahahahha. Never seen so many ribbons (except the AirForce) Ha! Thanks again Master.

I’m shooting with a Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z50 with a handful of different lenses.

How do you like the Z50? I think I am going to have work buy me one to try out. I would go with a Z6, but we JUST got three new D850's.

Very happy with it. The user interface is very similar to the Z6, the sensor is a little small but that Helps with high ISO / low light shots. I like having an APS-C crop sensor in the quiver especially for the extra reach with a big zoom. I have zero regrets with picking it up. Also the “kit” little pancake lens (16-50 3.5-6.3) is a fantastic little walkaround lens

I'd want to try the Z5 over the 50. But for everyday, neither is what I'd consider small, especially with a nice lens on the front compared to a DSLR. One thing going for the DSLR is battery life but the Z5 fixes that with ability to run off powerbanks. Still happy with mirrorless though.

Yeah but the Z5 is a full frame camera, the Z50 is a crop sensor so it really comes down to what you’re looking for in a camera body. They’re not really comparable to one another IMO. And the z50 with the pancake lens is indeed pretty small.
