My ex made the exact same thing for me and i love it! Although i'm going to do away with the platform system inside since i'll be sleeping by myself now. I figure a good cot and sleeping pad will work perfectly for me and still give me plenty of space to sit down or give my dog enough room to sleep on the floor....

    and here's the old platform....

haha yea California is just a little far from me ;) I'm gonna hold on to it tho, just in case i need to sleep more than one person and don't feel like pitching a tent. It's not to difficult to make one if you'd like...

Yeah, I opted to make one and I can only wonder why the hell it took me so long to do this! Not quite done yet, but I'm happy so far.

    That looks pretty cool.

Have you thought about a "lid" of sorts for a camp table?

I normally travel with a small table, however due to the fact that I have the 5' bed and I'm 6'6", I will be making something that will fold out and rest on the drawers to support my feet. This could easily be used as a table if needed. Just need the rain to pass so I can get back to work on it, sadly looks like I'll be waiting till Thursday.

Might be Friday afternoon. Current WX shows rain through Friday/AM.

I was looking at these couple setups thinking the flap could be used to secure the drawers. Folded up, it'd be the extra length.

I set the drawers up to be held closed by the tailgate, the fold out platform will normally be folded forward and have things mounted to the bottom so that when its folded out for sleeping it will still be a flat smooth surface. I'm not doing so well explaining this, but when i get it done the pics will make much more sense.

You did fine explaining. My thought was that the tailgate doesn't lock so it can be opened. Making the extension the 'door' would give you a bit more security is how I was thinking.

Very true, but with the camper shell on there you cant open the tailgate without unlocking the rear window of the hatch. I guess it will keep the 'honest' thieves out... Thats also why I painted everything black, hopefully no one will ever even notice its in there.

Yup. My goal was to keep stuff in there vs the back seat. Which is why I was thinking locking.

McMaster Carr has a bunch of locks/latches and other stuff that would work well for a lock. Reasonable prices too(for what you're getting)
