Ok folks, my 2013 TRD @ 80k miles needs new shocks. As long as I’ve owned the truck ( since 40k miles) it’s been quite noticeable that while the payload is rated at 6500lbs, the rear has been weak in holding up even a kitchen appliance. Since the rear shocks are officially in need of replacement and I have to go into that area anyway, maybe it’s time for a leaf spring upgrade too. Looking for suggestions/product recommendations/any advice at all!! Thanks y’all.

I have Sumo Springs on mine, and they do well. Easy to install.

Firestone airbags, daystar cradles, and Bilstein 5160s on mine. Better then stock handling when empty and can adjust the bags to carry whatever weight you want.

If you aren't offroading and flexing out your rig, or wanting lift, I'd simply go with Firestone airbags and Bilstein 5100s. But if you do want to flex out your rig now and again @buckmaster243 is right on with the daystar cradles. Bilstein 5160s are also a great upgrade if you want/need a reservoir shock (i'm running 5160s and love them).

If you are planning on a future lift, now would be the best time to address this instead of buying items suggested above.

my truck is just leveled and and when discount drooped out the suspension the other day to put new tires on there was a good 2-3” of space between the bags and cradles. Even with stock suspension the cradles are nice. But if your staying on the road then yeah no need really.

    Correction to your numbers:
Tacoma tow rating is 6500 lbs with tow package but the payload is on the door plate and like 1200 lbs. Read up on GVWR also.

All the Tacoma springs stock were/are weak crap that's why the 4 packs to replace 3 packs free by dealer and even after too much sag and impossible to tow anything.
Get new aftermarket springs as many many posts on them to read and many options.

Ahh right, thank you that makes more sense.. either way a goddamn dryer shouldn’t be deflecting the springs so much you notice...
So are you saying I can get the 3 pack replaced at the dealer even though I’m like.. the 3rd owner??

I’ve never even heard of air bags. Looks like I asked the right people lol. I have thought about lifting it, but no great need to do so... while I do find myself off-road sometimes, it’s usually nothing too intense and I’m just trying to get to a remote place. I’m really just looking to be able to load the thing with tools, materials, gear etc .. and not have it ride like there’s a giant alligator wagging it’s tail in the bed...

Definitely airbags. I have airbags, FOX shocks w/ reservoir and changed out the leaf springs to a HD OME leaf. Handles a small 3100 pounds TT.
