I know this all too well, as my old f 150 had 8" of lift on 36" tires but i also had gears full suspension work and a twin screw SC on top of a fully worked 5.4 motor. i could kill people in that truck... but i didn't because i knew i was faster in the first place. This ignorant fool not to name names has NO mods to speak of thus slowing his truck down... got it.

I third the opinion. I used to ride shotgun in a Nova that would run low 11 to high 10 second quarter miles. I can't count how many times we just loped along at half throttle snickering.

Fuel prices have definitely made me ease up on the accelerator. Now the biggest reason why I want to get the intake and exhaust is to try and help with fuel economy.

You'd be better off NOT buying that stuff, then. Figure at least $600 for an intake and exhaust but that's if you go full custom exhaust. Buy a cat back system and it will be more. So, take a conservative $600 and figure what that will do for your gas purchases. Even if you gain 2mpg or say 2 gallons per fill up, at $7 per fill up once a week for those two gallons it would take you at least 85 weeks before you even get close to seeing any benefit in mpg.

In other words, you don't buy intakes and exhausts for better mpg.

funny thing, i drove down to whitefish montana two weeks ago from Fort McMurray Alberta (Oil Capital of Canada and major supplier to the US). When i left Fort McMurray it cost me $85 to fill my tank. when i got to Montana i filled my tank for $57. I gasp everytime my fuel level hits half tank.

so true and if you get these mods you will mash the pedal more often to hear the wonderful new sounds it makes, trust me you can drive much more economically w/out these things. i am not telling you not to do it (by all means you should), but you will end up throwing your money away on gas because you will love how your tacoma will sound.

It's not the only reason. I do want the extra power when needed, maybe when I pull up next to that Enzo . Plus I plan on keeping the truck for at least ten more years, so over a period of time it will pay for itself. Tax returns will pay for these adds that I want.

Definitely. I wasn't trying to dissuade you from doing it, I'm just saying don't look for mileage gains if that's your only reason. "Because I want to" is a better reason, lol! Hell, if we didn't mod we wouldn't need forums like this.

last part of your comment has had me baffled... I have re-read it like 4 times and looked at the comments before and after yours... who are we talking about?

(This ignorant fool not to name names has NO mods to speak of thus slowing his truck down... got it.)

just to let you know these arent straight away races
there are stoplights and traffic involved so yes it is possible and yes they knew what was going on
almost everyday to school six of us always race there and there is traffic stoplights and everything else on the way
and yes i have won and those are what my friends drive.
and i agree streetracing is very bad and i dont agree with it but im not one to backdown from a challenge lol

How can you say that you don't agree with street racing when you just said you do it every time someone says their vehicle is faster? Running from stop light to stop light with traffic! Seems an awful lot like street racing to me. I don't mean to sound condescending but that sounds pretty hypocritical.

^It is hypocritical and who cares what a high school student has to say? There's a reason why they aren't considered adults yet and it's not because they typically show GOOD judgment.

Racing someone on the street is dangerous, no matter what caveats you add to it.
