Just noticed in a parking lot today at very slow speeds that my front left wheel was giving off a a faint squeak each rotation of the wheel when the wheel is almost at full lock (both directions)

I was not touching the brakes when this happened and applying the brakes did not seem to make the sound increase or diminish. Again this was an audible squeak but not loud.

The strange thing is that I just took the truck out again to try to duplicate the issue and couldn't do it. What I noticed tonight however was that the rear drivers side had a slight squeak when I would initially press the brake. Again very slight in sound but audible.

I can take care of the drum squeak but looking to get some ideas as to what may be causing the front squeak.

One thing to note is that I did recently complete the Tundra Brake Upgrade a couple weeks back and did not notice any rubbing or squeaking until today (I did just paint the wheels this weekend but not sure how that would be related to the squeaking)

    Any ideas?

It's coming from the wheel itself or the power steering pump?

Can you help me understand how the power steering pump would be causing a squeak with each rotation of the wheel? Not saying you are wrong, I am just a noob at this stuff so any education you can give me would help.

It was doing it for a good 3 min as I went round and round in a parking lot trying to cross out variables (brakes, speed, right/left, etc). Again at just shy of full in both directions squeak, squeak, squeak each rotation, but only at very slow speed, and braking or not braking did not impact it.

Maybe there's a thick piece of paint that's rubbing the caliper, and you can't replicate it because it self cleared? Forgive me, as this is just a shot in the dark from someone with no first gen experience.

Edit: just realized it's pretty unlikely you painted the inside of your wheels. Just ignore me.

N/m I am not that good at reading :-/

Can you replicate it with the wheels off the ground?

I plan on pulling the wheel one of the next couple evenings and seeing if maybe the dust shield is contacting the rotor at near full lock...wondering if I caught the dust shield and bent it ever so slightly when I pulled the bags out that I used to cover the dust shields, rotors/calipers when I painted the rims? Didn't feel anything catch but won't know for sure unless I check.

your comment about painting the rims leads me to believe that you have steel wheels. Are there hub caps or center caps or just steel wheels? When you are at full lock the wheel/tire is at maximum camber one way on one side and the other way on the other side and this puts a greater load on the outside if the rim on that side. A steel wheel will deflect slightly under this load and if there is a cap the friction point on that particular place might squeek. If there is/are no caps there is a possibility of the rim deflection going all the way to the center hub and it squeeks where it rubs on the hub. Here is the T.M.I. portion of the reply. Toyota is one of a very few manufacturers that centers its rims on the hub stud center, the circle that the 5 or 6 studs rotate around. Other manufacturers use the hub as the centering of the rim on the hub if that makes sense. Try putting a little grease on the hub where the rim sits and it might solve the problem. A secondary benefit will be that the rim wont rust to the hub and make it an "issue" to take the rim off in a few years.

tacoma alloy wheels. they were a little beat up and I plan on putting different wheels on in the near future but for now I cleaned them up, sanded them a little to give the etch primer something to grab, then etch primer followed by engine enamel. Father in law has body shop so he is going to throw them under lamps to harden them even more but that has not occurred just yet.
