Had a little yank and crank. Husqvarna 51, Stihl MS250, and a Stihl MS170.

The husky hasn’t been cranked in a while. 8 pulls and it was running.

Husky 572xp is a nice bigger saw. Used a 28" bar on it and ran great

My friend is a logger here in Washington state. He runs a Stihl 660. It’s a beast and a thing of beauty. They are spendy though.

I totally agree. I have an older Stihl 046. Runs a 28” would pull a max of 32” but I’m not sure I would want to run that all day!!!I got it from an older gentleman who had to give up cutting. He nearly gifted it to me...let me have everything for $250. Deals are out there though you just have to be patient.

I owned and operated a landscape maintenance and construction business for 18 years and learned if I invested a little more I got a lot more in return. Check local lawnmower shops and see if you can find an older well cared for Stihl or Husqvarna. Not sure if you trust Craigslist but if you find older gents getting out of cutting you can find a good deal. Have them meet you at the saw shop and have them look at it for you. I would personally steer clear of the craftsman brand. Just my 2 cents. Not sure if this is close by but I would take a look at something like this.

Parts will be readily available for the stihl, husqvarna brand saws...you’ll thank us later... I’d like to pay once. I don’t think any of us would steer people in the wrong direction.... think about this... I spent 670.00 on a saw a month ago... but most likely will last a long time with the upkeep of maintaining it.... that’s really not a lot of money in the long run now is it.... pay now, play later:thumbsup:

Oh and the stihl won’t leak bar oil like that craftsman will.... also taking into consideration is that a lot of us are on a budget so yes will that craftsman serve you well... probably ... for how long.. one can’t answer that

I bought 2 craftsman saws. The first was a 16” one. Ran good but I needed a bigger bar to take down a massive pine in my front yard. Ended up selling that to my father in law and I grabbed a new craftsman 20” saw that was actually made by Husqvarna. Thinking I was getting a better saw at a great price. Boy was I wrong. What a piece of shit that saw is. I would just make sure you do some research before you pull the trigger. If I ever buy another saw I’m gonna grab a Stihl

Get a stihl or a husky and they will last a long time if you take care of them.

I bought a Husky 266xp brand new for close to 300 in the late 80’s it was stolen in 2003. I just found one on Craigslist same model for 550. Honestly I would buy it in a heartbeat if I did more cutting. Thing was a tank. It had ample power, and I t ran forever. If I calculated all the wood I cut it easily had over 100 cords of mixed wood. Tamarack, Pine, Cedar, Oak, Madrone, etc. and I know for sure I did 50+ tall tree removals with it. The only things I replaced was a bar, chains, spark plug and the oil and gas that I used. One of the best investments I ever made.

I’ve heard some good things about echo. Quite a bit cheaper than a good Stihl. Might be a good buy if your not using it much. But like with anything just do some homework. I’m sure they have a few models that aren’t good buys.
