I have a Poulan I won at a Duck's Unlimited raffle when I was probably 14? I'm 35 now, so about 20 years ago give or take. Won that saw in Washington, where it actually got used, a lot, on our property.

Somewhere around 2002 we moved to Nevada. Since I was a stupid kid, I'd left the saw sitting in the woods. Didn't even realize I'd left it since we moved to the desert, and there weren't any trees to saw up anyways.

3 or 4 years after we moved, my dad got a phone call from the people that had bought our house up in WA. "Hey, did you by chance leave a green chainsaw out in the woods?"

Yep, we sure did. They mailed it back to us, I cleaned it up and it's still starting on the second pull to this day. I get to use it maybe once or twice a year, but I keep it cleaned and oiled and she just still goes like she was right out of the box.

My dad still runs a husky he got back in the 70s. My brother is Echo and Stihl. They all moved back to WA at this point. I'm just out here in the desert with my little Poulan that could.

Agreed. Like anything once companies start selling to big box stores quality can suffer. Do your research.

All 3 of mine are Stihl. I'm eyeing that new Stihl fuel injected 500.

So I buy from my local ace hardware ... they service what they sell if needed... got to know them so it’s been a pleasure doing business with them... I’d suggest something like this to anyone...

Yes sir. My Stihl shop is now an ace but the owner is the same guy who ran the shop before it switched over. His crew is top notch and know what they are talking about and can back it up with their ability to maintain and repair.

I love the ranchers. My cutting buddy owned one and it worked all day without complaining.

My ace carries husqvarna, stihl and craftsman... half of them say stihl and the other half say husky.... you pick one and run it like you stole it!! ;-) I had 2 stihl guys run my husky 550xpmk2 and they were thoroughly impressed. Iv said this before... I’m not a fan of either... just a fan of good workmanship!
Now I gotta look up this stihl injected 500 :-/

I run Stihl everything. Four chainsaws, a backpack blower, line trimmer, tiller etc and love them all. They start every time and with proper maintenance they've run flawlessly throughout the years. My landscaper however runs strictly Husqvarna and swears by them. I think if you choose either of the two brands you'll be happy with their performance and longevity of life. I think it’s just a personal choice and both are considered top tier brands that are built well and should last you a lifetime.
However if you're looking for a saw to bring out a few times a year to cut a small log or two across the road while out wheeling maybe the Craftsman will do otherwise I wouldn't recommend one.

    This.

And preferably buy the Husky at an authorized dealer where you can get it serviced if needed. Stihl only sells at authorized dealers.

That's interesting. The closest Husky dealer also sells Stihl, but at the 2nd location several miles away. Was told "we aren't allowed to sell both under the same roof".

Had 3 of'em on the shelf last week at my local ACE Stihl dealer. I believe the price tag was a little over $1300 if I remember correctly.

Buddy & I are clearing some land now in the mountains of WV for his cabin build. We had to cut up a 50ft single wide trailer and cut down multiple trees. My Stihls didn't disappoint. I'm splitting the wood now for future use in my cabin. This is what I'm doing during my vacation this week, it relaxes me.

Luckily we didn't have to cut up this 1953 trailer. I found a guy that restores them for his vintage trailer airb&b business so I gave it to him. He drove up from S.C. to WV to pick it up. Surprisingly for sitting neglected for so long inside was nice.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
You can get a Stihl 170 for under 200 bucks. Who the hell knows who makes that "crapsman" . You will thank yourself down the road a few years. My 170 was bought by my now passed on FIL back in 2004 -- It still runs perfect. Check out it's ratings on-line if you are not a believer!
